Bautzer Mayor raise the alarm: Saxony household endangers municipalities!
Bautzen, Deutschland - The double budget of the Free State of Saxony for the years 2025 and 2026 is in the middle of the public debate, and the mayors in the Bautzen district leave no doubt that they are dissatisfied with the decisions made. According to Sächsische, Cunewaldes Mayor Thomas Martolock (CDU) in particular feels the new budget as the insufficient Suggestions of the cities and municipalities have not been incorporated into the planning. This disregard leads directly to drastic measures: Martolock had to relieve three employees who were entrusted with culture and tourism, and is now faced with an increase in daycare fees.
Also in the line of fire is the deletion of the water flat rate, which has so far been funded by both by the Free State and the municipalities with five million euros each. Königswarha's Mayor Swen Nowotny (CDU) describes this decision as unrealistic and warns of the emotional burden among municipalities that are at risk of floods. These worries were also shared by Bischofswerda's mayor Holm Große (non -party), who speaks of a budgetary situation perceived as threatening, which forces many municipalities to resort to cash loans.
The numbers and facts of the household
The municipal allocations are expected to be 8.4 billion euros in 2025, which is of central importance for the municipalities. However, with a reduction in the municipal share in the Saxony budget from 34.6% in the previous year to 33.7% in 2025 and 32.3% in 2026, the fears of the mayors also increase with regard to financial bottlenecks and a lack of support. The announced Sachsenfonds is rated as positive, but remains behind the expectations, since the dialogue and trust between the government and the municipalities is weak.
The perspective of the municipalities
Bischofswerda is representative of the concerns of many cities in the Free State. Here the city bears more than 3.1 million euros of the total costs of 6.5 million euros for the daycare centers, while the Free State only pays 2.1 million euros. The criticism of the lack of dynamization of the grants for these important areas is getting louder, and Mayor Groß warns that the Syrian government must take the situation of the municipalities seriously.
The element of communication is essential, because SSG paper with the demands for the new state budget remained unanswered. Mayor Martolock and his colleagues complain that at the moment the feeling dominates that their concerns are not taken seriously.
The need to better deal with the challenges and to create more constructive cooperation between the municipalities and the Free State is increasingly considered centrally. It is to be hoped that the dialogue will be managed more openly and productively in the future so that the oppressive problems will no longer be ignored.
