Garden night in the monastery: 10,000 candles illuminate Panschwitz-Kuckau!
There is great anticipation for the Garden Night in the St. Marienstern Monastery in Panschwitz-Kuckau. On July 19, 2025, the monastery garden will be transformed into a radiant sea of lights with over 10,000 candles. The organizers around Sonja Heiduschka from the Christian Social Education Center Saxony put up the candles on Thursday evening to be ready for the event. Despite a heavy downpour earlier, the positive weather forecast ensures that guests will have the best time enjoying the festive backdrop. [MDR].
Visitors can look forward to a breathtaking atmosphere, as the candle pictures - consisting of around 100 candles and approximately two by three meters in size - are designed on secret themes. The motivations of the images, which are inspired from the Internet, will not be revealed until the event. Last year, anniversaries such as the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich were celebrated. This year there are 17 candle pictures waiting for visitors.
Cultural highlights of the garden night
A varied cultural program awaits guests. Felix Räuber, known for his hit “Alone Alone” and the music from international TV series such as “Grey’s Anatomy”, will give a concert and present exclusive insights into his new album “Journey to the Stars”. The singer stands for large-format, immersive concert formats that always thrill the audience. There will also be a performance by a Sorbian dance group from Schmerlitz, who will create a good atmosphere with their lively dances. EKZ Marienstern adds that a light and fire show by the Ravenchild-fire will additionally brighten the evening.
A real highlight will also be Tasso Witopil's cooking show, in which he will present a tasty gourmet menu with a dash of comedy. It's not just the music that will delight guests, regional vendors will also be on site to offer their specialties. This not only ensures culinary delights, but also a festive atmosphere in the entire area.
Practical information for visitors
Lighting the candles will be a communal experience that will take approximately 30 minutes. Anyone who would like to take part will be given sticks with wax to light the candles and should not bring their own lighter or matches. Entrance fees are 10 euros for adults and 2 euros for children up to 16 years. Tickets will be available online from June 15, 2025.
The Saxony region also has much more to offer. Anyone looking for sweet specialties will find them here. From traditional delicacies such as Russian bread and Leipzig larks to the original Dresden Christmas stollen, which can only be produced in a certain area - Saxon cuisine has a lot to offer. Sachsen Tourismus describes the diversity and high demands placed on regional products.
A visit to the Garden Night in the St. Marienstern Monastery not only promises a breathtaking experience, but also the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and cuisine of Saxony. Don't miss this highlight!
