In Kamenz, the cityscape will soon be enriched by two new bells. The main church of St. Mary's will receive a peace bell and a Christ bell thanks to a generous fundraising effort in which many people from Kamenz, as well as local companies and volunteers, worked together. As the Saxon reported, the first bell, the peace bell, was consecrated in May 2023 as part of a service for the city's 800th anniversary and can now be admired in the sacred museum of the city of Kamenz. A special highlight was a peace banner in rainbow motifs that was produced by the “Kamenzer Strickliesels” to celebrate the anniversary.
The emotional blessing of the bells at the market was found touching by many citizens and participants. Another milestone is imminent: The Christ Bell, which was cast a few weeks ago in a renowned bell foundry in the Odenwald, will be consecrated on September 21, 2025 during a brass service. This service takes place as part of the district trombone festival, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Kamenz trombone choir.
