Climbing action at the Bautzen reservoir: New route delights families!

The “Geo-Trail” high ropes course at the Bautzen reservoir opened the new season with fresh momentum on June 16, 2025. Malte Rastemborski, the operator, is pleased about the stable visitor numbers last season and looks forward to another successful season. “People love nature and the opportunity to be active,” says Rastemborski. This year, guests can once again enjoy popular activities such as climbing, grilling or games such as bowling and the oversized “four in a row”, which is great fun for young and old.

A real highlight are the seven climbing routes, one of which was equipped with new elements during the winter break. The long zip lines, which offer heights between 9 and 11.5 meters and ensure a lot of fun, are particularly in demand. Children from 1.05 meters can explore the course accompanied by an adult or older sibling. Safety is a top priority because the system of continuous pulleys does not require carabiners, making access easier even for inexperienced climbers. In addition, all systems are regularly checked and maintained by TÜV.

Safety standards in the high ropes course

Nowadays, safety is extremely important when climbing, especially in high ropes courses. The security system in the “Geo-Trail” is particularly advanced. The continuous rollers provide a stress-free climbing experience and eliminate the risk of unhooking, which is particularly beneficial for families with children. After a safety briefing by trained staff, each climber is provided with the necessary equipment, including a climbing harness and safety carabiners equipped with strong magnets. This measure ensures that climbing is not only safe but also uncomplicated as the risk of human error is greatly minimized.

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that the facility is externally certified according to the standards of the European High Ropes Course Association (ERCA). This also includes regular checks and maintenance being carried out by qualified personnel. The trees in the high ropes course are well maintained and there is no dangerous dead wood, which provides additional safety.

Diverse offers and events

A gastronomic offer rounds off the experience in the high ropes course. For small appetites, there is, among other things, bockwurst and fries, while larger celebrations can be organized with a buffet or cooked food. The operator has also already held a witch-burning event, and further exciting dates for night climbing are planned, which are guaranteed to whet your appetite for more.

The popularity of the high ropes course suggests that a good hand was used in the planning and implementation of the offers. The “Geo-Trail” is not just a place for climbing, but an adventure area for the whole family. So if you are looking for an adventure in nature, the high-altitude winds at the Bautzen reservoir are highly recommended.
