Cowshed and silver plates: New exhibition opens in Rammenau Castle!
Rammenau Castle, a treasure of baroque architecture, will open its doors to visitors from June 29th with a new permanent exhibition entitled “Cowshed and Silver Plate”. As the Saxon reports, this exhibition provides comprehensive insights into 300 years of history, from the lives of the nobles to the everyday tasks of the maids and servants on the castle grounds.
The tour through the impressive baroque complex includes the castle itself, the Meierhof, the Ehrenhof and the surrounding park. During a visit you have the opportunity to try out milking yourself in the cowshed or try your hand at heavy sacks. For younger guests there is fun with hobby horses, wheelbarrows and scooters with animal faces - ideal for a fun family outing!
Interactive experiences for all ages
The way information is conveyed in the exhibition is particularly innovative: infographics and QR codes invite visitors to engage with digitized original sources. The exhibition is characterized by “stages” and “dioramas” in which historical conversations can be heard and everyday objects from the time are shown in use.
Another highlight is the opportunity for visitors to use historical furniture and even take a look into the built-in cupboards. If you want to enjoy the offer in German or English, you don't need a belt, because the lower floor is barrier-free and therefore easily accessible for wheelchair users. The opening is supported by the “State Palaces, Castles and Gardens of Saxony” company with an investment of one and a half million euros.
A celebration for the whole family
The big family festival opening on June 29th starts at 1 p.m. with a colorful program: historical fencing, baroque dances, laundry, skills courses and making hay hearts ensure a lot of fun. And anyone who shows up in costume as a princess, count or servant gets free entry.
From June 30th, the castle will open its doors daily (except Tuesdays) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The price for a visit is 8 euros for adults, 7 euros for concessions and children between 6 and 16 years only pay 1 euro. There are also reduced rates for groups of 15 or more people. The castle café, which many visitors rave about, invites you to relax after a tour. Note that entry is required here too and it is recommended to come at least 1.5 hours before closing time to see everything. Further information is available on barockschloss-rammenau.com.
