Police strike: Robbery in Zittau, two suspects in custody!

In Zittau, where many citizens' sense of security has recently begun to falter, a brutal robbery concerns the police and the public. On May 31, 2025, two young men attacked a 19-year-old in his own apartment. The perpetrators used force to demand both the victim's debit card and the associated PIN. The result was not only the theft of the card, but also the theft of a wristwatch. Using the stolen bank details, the perpetrators withdrew almost 890 euros from the victim's account. Fortunately, the police secured camera footage of the affected bank branch, which should significantly advance the investigation, reports Saxon.

But the actions don't stop there. The police in Zittau are currently searching several properties as part of an investigation into another robbery that occurred a few days ago. These attacks shed a worrying light on the development of crime in the region. A 25-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday and is now in custody. His accomplice, a 36-year-old man, was caught during an ongoing police operation on Tuesday. There was already an arrest warrant against him, like this MDR reported.

In summary, it shows that crime in Germany, especially robberies, is a serious issue. According to current statistics, over 38,000 robbery crimes were recorded by the police in 2022, with a clearance rate of almost 60%, which still gives hope that the perpetrators can be held accountable. The most common types of robbery are handbag snatches and gas station robberies, while the number of robbery-homicides has been halved in the last 20 years, according to data from Statista.

The police in Zittau remain on guard and are working intensively to solve both new and old cases in order to give citizens a feeling of security again. Although the trend in crime is worrying, the will and determination of the authorities to counteract it gives hope.
