Fundraiser at the Léon-Foucault-Gymnasium: Students collect 1,735 euros!
On June 24, 2025, an impressive fundraising run was held at the Léon-Foucault-Gymnasium in Hoyerswerda, in which students from grades 5 to 7 enthusiastically took part. The event, which was supported by the school community and numerous spectators, brought in an impressive 1,735 euros. The donations go to various local institutions, including the Bautzen women's shelter, a children's home in Hoyerswerda and the Lausitzer Werkstätten. This shows how committed the school community is to acting in social responsibility, as the Wochenkurier reports.
Under the motto “Every lap counts!” the different grade levels competed one after the other. The fifth graders were on the track from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., followed by the sixth and seventh graders, who started the race every hour. In order to keep motivation high, there were free drinks for all participants during the charity run, which further lightened the atmosphere. After the race there was a celebratory awards ceremony in which the best runners were recognized.
Active support from sponsors
The event was supported by a variety of sponsors, including local companies such as Eis-Uli, Globus, the Elitzsch car dealership and the support association of the Léon-Foucault-Gymnasium. This support is crucial in order to be able to hold such events successfully and to strengthen the school community. Lea-Sophie Neumann, member of the student council, spoke on behalf of everyone about the gratitude to the runners, the sponsors and the organizational team behind this successful event.
A remarkable achievement came from a mother who ran a full 20 laps, setting an impressive example of the commitment of the entire family. Such actions make it clear that cohesion at school and in the community is very important.
Planned sequels and commitment to social causes
The organizational team is already planning to continue the fundraising run in the coming school year. Another run will take place in the first week of the new school year so that other grades also have the opportunity to actively support social causes. Through such activities, young people not only learn to take responsibility for others, but they also promote their own teamwork and social skills.
Participation in a charity run is often based on a very simple idea: the students look for their own sponsors in their area who are willing to donate for every lap they run. Donation processing is usually organized automatically via platforms such as fundoo, so that every sponsor receives an email with a link to the donation. This is not only practical, but also ensures that the entire campaign runs smoothly, as Plan International describes.
Overall, the fundraising run at the Léon-Foucault-Gymnasium shows how important community engagement is for the region and how students can actively make a contribution to helping people in need. By organizing such events, not only the school itself but also social interaction is strengthened.
