Chemnitz opens historical treasures: Open Monument Day 2025!
On Sunday, September 14th, it's that time again. The Open Monument Day is just around the corner, and this event is also being celebrated big in Chemnitz. This year's event has the motto "Valuable: priceless or irreplaceable?" and focuses on post-war architecture. This brings the diversity of our cultural heritage to the fore, and over 5,000 historical places and buildings in Germany open their doors to interested visitors.
The organizers, consisting of monument owners, associations, architects and the Chemnitz monument protection authority, are committed to making the value of cultural monuments visible and celebrating them. The official opening will take place in the former tulle factory in Chemnitz, where the first incentive for visitors will be created at the ceremony organized by the Saxon State Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development.

Monument preservation – an issue for everyone
But what exactly does “historic preservation” mean? According to the Wikipedia It includes numerous measures for the preservation of cultural monuments that take intellectual, technical, craftsmanship and artistic aspects into account. The legal basis for this is laid down in monument protection. This complex interplay of preservation and care processes is essential for the long-term existence of our historic buildings.
With the Saxony monument network Numerous events are also planned in other urban areas such as Leipzig, Sohland and Jahnishausen. For example, an Art Deco apartment building built in 1924 will open its doors in Leipzig. Guided tours and creative activities are on the program here, offering an exciting experience for both families and those interested in culture.
So, dear people of Cologne! Mark September 14th in your calendar and take the opportunity to discover the treasures of your city. Because these monuments tell stories of bygone times - and every visit makes its contribution to preserving our cultural heritage.
