Creatively shaping peace: Art competition for Chemnitz children extended!

As part of the art competition “What Peace Means to Me” organized by the city network Mayors for Peace is organized, children and young people between the ages of 6 and 15 are called upon to express their creative ideas on the topic of peace in the form of drawings or paintings. How chemnitz.de reported, the deadline for submissions has been extended to October 15, 2025. The artistic works can either be handed in to the Chemnitz town hall or sent to the city's postal address.

The theme of the competition is all about “peaceful cities”, an important message of the network, which has been active since 2006 and is committed to the abolition of nuclear weapons and lasting, global peace. In over 8,400 cities worldwide that are part of Mayors for Peace the importance of peace in education and in society is emphasized.

Conditions of participation and submission

All children and young people who live in or commute to one of the member cities are eligible to participate. Works on white paper in DIN A3 or B4 format are required. The application form must be completed in English and submissions must include both the artwork and the completed form. As on the website chemnitz.de As can be seen, up to five works of art per category can be selected by the member cities, which represents an additional incentive for creative minds.

The final of the competition will take place in Japan, where the artistic works will be collected and judged. The results will be announced in early December 2025. This not only gives the young artists the opportunity to creatively express their thoughts and ideas on the topic of peace, but also a chance to be heard on an international level. An exciting opportunity that is not only fun, but also helps raise awareness of important issues.

The city of Chemnitz is looking forward to numerous creative contributions that underline this important message of peace. A good knack for art and creativity is required here - and perhaps your own thoughts on peace will inspire others to also get actively involved.
