Art and culture in Flöha: Entanglements” attracts over 10,000 visitors!
The renovated train station hall in Flöha has been transformed into a true cultural hotspot since April 11th by showing the fascinating exhibition “Entanglements” from the Institute for Foreign Relations (ifa). This event is an exception to the usual practice of ifa, which normally only exhibits abroad. As part of the Capital of Culture year 2025, the exhibition with its contributions by well-known artists such as Käthe Kollwitz and Hermann Glöckner has already attracted over 10,000 visitors - a considerable number that was recorded as of June 2025.
The exhibition is open until August 3rd and is part of an exciting cultural journey that brings the historic textile location of Flöha to life. During the GDR era, thousands of workers passed through the train station every day on their way to the factories, making this place a central point in the region's history. Today the story is being reinterpreted as part of the exhibition, because “Entanglements” brings modern and contemporary art into dialogue with the textile tradition of the region around Chemnitz, which was an important location for textile production until 1994.
Cultural highlights of the exhibition
The exhibition is not only a showcase of old art, but also offers an “open space” that acts as a meeting point for residents and guests - with coffee and cake to create a cozy break while browsing through cultural history. In addition to the exhibits by artists such as Katharina Fritsch and Renate Göritz, there will also be film screenings on the history of Flöha as well as offers from the UFO youth center and UndoYarn from Chemnitz, which were very well received.
- Workshops: Am 1.
European Capital of Culture 2025
The “Entanglements” exhibition is part of the large-scale program that, together with 38 other municipalities, is naming Chemnitz European Capital of Culture 2025. Under the motto “C the Unseen”, over 150 projects and more than 1,000 events are expected. The five program lines include topics such as “European Makers of Democracy” and “On the Move!”, which are intended to enrich and diversify cultural life in the region.
Art lovers can look forward to numerous other events, including various exhibitions in the Gunzenhauser Museum and in the smac, which focus on ore mining and 20th century art. Engagements such as the premiere of the opera “Rummelplatz” in the Chemnitz Opera House on September 20, 2025 promise to properly frame the upcoming celebrations in 2025.
The Flöha region, which was once an important textile location, is experiencing a revival of its cultural identity with the exhibition and numerous events and shows that history, even if it is interwoven, never completely disappears.
