Lower Austria's state parliament president Karl Wilfing visits Chemnitz!

A very special event is about to take place in Chemnitz. On Wednesday, September 17th, at 10:45 a.m., the city will receive a visit from Karl Wilfing, the President of the State Parliament of Lower Austria. This will make an important entry in the Capital of Culture book in the Green Salon of the town hall. The event promises to be an exciting networking event for those present, with Mayor Sven Schulze and other dignitaries from the Saxon State Parliament taking part. Media representatives are cordially invited to attend this photo opportunity.

Wilfing and his delegation have a special connection to Chemnitz that stretches back more than 30 years. The visit, which lasts from September 15th to 17th, also includes interesting stops in Leipzig and Dresden. This close cooperation between the parliaments has been strengthened again and again in recent years, which can be seen not least in such visits. Chemnitz.de reports that this exchange is of great importance for the cultural and political networking of the two regions.

Chemnitz Capital of Culture 2025

But there is even more reason to be happy for the people of Chemnitz: the city has successfully applied to be European Capital of Culture for 2025. Chemnitz prevailed against strong competitors such as Dresden, Hanover and Nuremberg. This is not only a reason to celebrate, but also an excellent opportunity to realize numerous cultural projects. Particular attention should be paid to young people who will be actively involved in the design of events and festivals in the coming years.

An exciting project in this context is the “CreateU – Young Culture made in Chemnitz” initiative. Here, teenagers and young adults between the ages of 14 and 27 are called upon to contribute and implement creative ideas, be it through festivals, photo projects or workshops. The regular meetings offer opportunities for networking and exchanging ideas with like-minded people from other cities and countries. Chemnitz2025.de emphasizes that the goal of this initiative is an international youth event in 2025 that will showcase the region's diverse cultural talents.

A look back at the European Capital of Culture

To understand the importance of Chemnitz as a cultural capital, it is worth taking a look at history. The title of European Capital of Culture has been awarded since 2000. In the early years, several cities shared the title, but since 2001 two cities have generally received this honorary title. Chemnitz is now one of these chosen cities, which will further stimulate cultural exchange and creativity in the city. Wikipedia lists the previous title holders and provides an exciting overview of the development of cultural capitals throughout Europe.

The anticipation of the event and the cultural highlights associated with it is growing. Chemnitz is ready to present itself as a vibrant cultural city, and Karl Wilfing's visit will hold a special place in the city's history.
