Petition for train connection: Chemnitz-Leipzig now needs support!

The discussion about the rail connection between Chemnitz and Leipzig reaches new heights: Ines Springer, board member for traffic of the ADAC Saxony, recently supported a petition of the IHK Chemnitz, which is strong for the rapid expansion and new construction of this important railway line. ADAC Sachsen reports that the initiative aims to move the Saxon state parliament to complete the planning work for electrification and two-track expansion. In a statement, Springer underlined the essential role of a powerful rail connection for economic growth and sustainable mobility in the region.

The IHK Chemnitz emphasizes the currently inadequate long -distance transport connection, which not only influences commuters, but also makes it difficult to settle specialists. Even if the electrification of the route is already being planned, the continuous two -track expansion remains incomplete. The concern for increasing construction costs and financial bottlenecks in the budget are threatened to endanger the project by 2032.

petition with a strong signal

The petition is aimed directly at the Saxon state parliament petition committee and requires the provision of sufficient funds in the household 2025/26. According to Openpetition , the project is to be implemented quickly in order to avoid further disadvantages of the city and the region. There is no secret that the expansion of the railway line represents the most important infrastructure project that strengthens the economic connection of the Chemnitz region. Current restrictions in passenger transport as well as a lack of long -distance transport connections and goods transport are pressing problems that need to be solved.

Successful implementation of the petition could also cause significant changes: regular and reliable train connections should improve the pendulum options and increase the availability of workers. In addition, increasing investments and more intensive business contacts could raise the region to the next stage, which would also give tourism a boost.

a project with a long history

The history of the project reads like a thriller: For over 25 years, project groups from ministries, municipalities, associations, funding institutions and Deutsche Bahn have dealt with planning and financing. The current planning status focuses on 2024, where the financing of the planning phase is already secured. But as so often in life: the failure or the delay of the project still threaten due to a lack of budget.

In total, more than 3,000 supporters have signed the petition with the aim of collecting a total of 12,000 signatures. A strong signal to state politics that is time to correct the course for the future of the region.
