How MDR reported that three men, aged 18, 25 and 35, closely observed the pensioner's cash withdrawal.

After taking off, the elderly man took the bus to his residential area, the Chemnitz Yorck area. The perpetrators followed him unnoticed to his front door on Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Strasse. At this point there was an unpleasant encounter: the 18-year-old main perpetrator harassed the senior citizen and tried to snatch his wallet by threatening violence. Loud Day24 The two accomplices stood guard during the attack. During the altercation, the pensioner fell, but fought back bravely and shouted loudly for help.

The young man, a Syrian, was already known to the police for various property and brutality crimes. The other two suspects, who are of Libyan origin, are also under suspicion, but no arrest warrants have been issued against them yet. However, the investigation into attempted robbery and assault continues.

Safety of older people in focus

This incident also sheds light on the safety situation of older people in Germany. According to an analysis by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, violent crime against older people is a growing problem. They are often particularly vulnerable and cannot adequately defend themselves in threatening situations. The authorities are required to develop suitable protective measures.

Overall, it remains to be hoped that the investigation will bring the perpetrators to justice and that the senior will get back on his feet quickly despite minor injuries. Such attacks should keep us all vigilant while encouraging us to be more supportive and protective of one another.
