Clearance sale at Pfennigpfeiffer in the Chemnitz Center: 50% discount!
In Chemnitz, a large clearance sale in the Pfennigpfeiffer in the Chemnitz Center is currently causing a stir. With a whopping 50% discount on all red-marked items, visitors are bustling in the aisles and many are getting a good deal. This action is part of the takeover by the non-food discounter TEDi, which was approved by the Federal Cartel Office in March 2025 and which began in December 2024 when the agreement to acquire 84 stores was reached. In addition to the Chemnitz branch, the locations in the Vita-Center and Rosenhof will also be taken over.
The good news for employees: All employees in the affected branches will be taken on, which indicates that TEDi has a careful engagement strategy. The non-food discounter is known for having a varied range in its range, which includes stationery, decoration, crafts, household, toys and DIY.
A new start for the discounter landscape
With this acquisition, TEDi is pursuing a clear expansion strategy that aims to operate 5,000 locations in Europe in the medium term. Its portfolio currently includes over 3,300 branches in 15 countries, and this acquisition will increase the number of locations in Germany to over 2,000. As part of the restructuring, the branches will initially be run under the Pfennigpfeiffer brand, but the redesign is already beginning, so that some locations are already labeled “powered by TEDi”.
Industry insights show that discounters like TEDi have grown enormously in importance in recent years. The competitors are characterized by a narrow range, a high proportion of own brands and competitive prices. Compared to supermarkets, which list an average of almost 12,000 items, discounters only stock between 2,000 and 3,500 items, with a focus on fast-moving foods. Many discounters rely on their core competencies from the food industry in order to be able to keep up with strong competition.
The future of Pfennigpfeiffer under TEDi
According to TEDi, future product range design will bring significant changes. By introducing more than 17,000 new products, including 3,000 that will be available for one euro, the Pfennigpfeiffer branches taken over from December 2024 will not only be optimized but also modernized. These developments are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at not only increasing market shares in Germany, but also improving the overall shopping experience of customers.
At a time when discounters have a market share of almost 38 percent in the German food retail sector, this takeover is certainly a step in the right direction to further consolidate TEDi's position. The competition among discounters remains fluid and it will be exciting to see how the market landscape develops in the near future.
In the meantime, we advise all bargain hunters not to miss the last days of the clearance sale at Pfennigpfeiffer in the Chemnitz Center. This is the right moment to get hold of one or two good pieces.
