Gunshot wound in Chemnitz: Mann from Ukraine met with police operation

On Friday evening, July 5, 2025, the police in Chemnitz, in the Sonnenberg district, were alerted to a serious incident. At 8:18 p.m. there was a firearm in Gießerstrasse, in which a 41-year-old man from Ukraine was injured. The shot hit him on the arm as he ran along the street. Thanks to the quick intervention of the residents, the police were informed immediately, and the injured person was cared for by the emergency doctor and taken to the hospital. According to the police statements, however, there was no danger to the victim, which was a relief for the concerned residents.

The police's forces were quickly sent to the scene, where they locked the crime scene in a large scale and mobilized a heavily armed conservation and arrest unit (BFE). The perpetrators could be identified quickly: a 40-year-old German was arrested on the third floor of a house. When searching his apartment, the forensic technicians found a functional gas pressure gun with which the shot was given. The alleged was handed over on site of the evidence and arrest unit. The investigation into the background of the incident is still in progress and are led by the Chemnitz criminal police. The public prosecutor checks whether the suspect will be presented to the district court.
