Exciting week in Chemnitz: dates for art, peace and больше!

Exciting events are coming up in Chemnitz! The coming week from September 1st to 7th, 2025 will be all about culture, education and peace. Mayor Ralph Burghart will welcome new trainees and students on Monday, September 1st at 10 a.m. in the city council hall of the town hall. At 11 a.m., Mayor Sven Schulze will send his greetings to the “Youth for Peace” action day from the Marathon Tower in the Sportforum, before Ines Vorsatz leads the opening of the “Challenge your Perception” exhibition course in Hall C0, Wirkbau at the same time. In the evening the Mittelbach local council will meet at 7 p.m.

But that's just the beginning! Tuesday, September 2nd, will still be festive. At 2 p.m., Bundesbank President Dr. Joachim Nagel and his board members were included in the Golden Book of the city of Chemnitz. After a short coffee break, the cultural advisory board will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the town hall, followed by Ralph Burghart's greeting at the opening of the 72nd Congress of European Railway and Model Railway Friends at 6 p.m. At the same time, the art exhibition “Nature and Structure” will be opened by Mayor Schulze and Mayor Knut Kunze.

Cultural highlights of the week

Wednesday, September 3rd brings with it a variety of events. At 9 a.m. Mayor Knut Kunze will take part in the exchange of experiences about street cleaning. Mayor Schulze will then welcome the participants of the “Transformation in Chemnitz” event at 9:30 a.m. Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Saxon Adult Education Association in the university library at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. Schulze will take part in the meeting of the Interministerial Working Group on the Capital of Culture and at 11:45 a.m. media representatives are invited to a tour of the city's economy. In the evening, the company run starts at 5:45 p.m., which is all about team spirit and sporting achievements.

Thursday is all about citizen participation, when Schulze invites you to a public consultation hour at 4 p.m. At the same time, the cultural committee and the inclusion advisory board for people with disabilities take place in the town hall. A look at Peace Day

A very special highlight awaits the people of Chemnitz on Friday, March 5, 2025. The Peace Banner 2025 is presented by Aktion ©, with participating schools such as the Chemnitz Montessori School and André-Gymnasium being the creative minds behind the various banner projects. In total there will be 323 banners that will stretch an impressive 2,261 meters long! The day begins at 11 a.m. at the Neumarkt Memorial and Action Square with an opening at the Peace Cross, a symbol of remembrance of the war victims.

The crowning conclusion is the main event at 6 p.m., in which Mayor Sven Schulze will listen to the worthy words of the speakers, while the GONG wind ensemble provides musical accompaniment.

The European Capital of Culture 2025 has set itself the goal of setting an example and bringing people together. Investments in art and culture can trigger lasting changes and position Chemnitz on the European map as worth living and productive.
