The structure of the DFB Cup

The DFB Cup, which is the second most important title in German club football, is held in the K.-O. system. There are currently 18 teams from the Bundesliga, 2nd Bundesliga and the best teams from the 3rd division and 24 teams from lower leagues. The pairing draw takes place in front of each round and undermospheric teams enjoy the home right against higher -class opponents. This regularly ensures exciting surprises and gripping games as we know them from the history of the cup: over 4000 teams have participated since the first discontinuation in 1935, and the record winner is FC Bayern Munich with a total of 20 titles.

The fascination of the DFB Cup lies not only in the duels of the big teams, but also in the unforgettable moments caused by the surprises of the undermined teams. Since the introduction of the video assistant in the 2017/18 season, the technical aspect of the game has also come to the fore, always under the curious eyes of the spectators. Further information about the DFB Cup can be found on the website of the Kickers or on the wikipedia page for this exciting competition.
