Dresden shines again: Heiderand gets first Michelin star!

In the culinary landscape of Germany, there was reason to celebrate today, because the new Guide Michelin Germany 2025 was presented in Frankfurt am Main. The highly renowned restaurant guide, who has been a benchmark for gastronomic excellence for over 60 years, has awarded new stars and also confirmed old people. Among the cheering spirits in Dresden is the Heiderand restaurant, which was first awarded a Michelin star. Chef Martin Walther, who took over the reins in 2020, not only took over the restaurant, but also revived with a fresh culinary orientation. The history of the Heiderand goes back to 1904, and now it has secured another place on the gastronomic map.

In total, Dresden now has three masterpieces of upscale cuisine. In addition to the new star carrier, the proven restaurants are elements in the time flow, which has lasted its star since 2013, as well as the pleasure studio, which has been shining with a star since 2019. The elements are characterized by modern high kitchen in an industrial atmosphere, while the pleasure studio is led by the siblings Marcus and Nicole Blonkowski. Each of these restaurants brings its own note to Dresden Gastronomy.

The stars and their meaning

But what does it mean to be awarded a Michelin star? The Guide Michelin awards these badge of honor according to strict criteria: the quality of the products used, the originality of the dishes, the taste and the professional preparation are crucial. Aspects such as atmosphere or service hardly play a role. A total of 341 restaurants were honored in Germany this year, with 282 honored with a star, 47 with two stars and 12 with the highest award - three stars. In addition, 80 restaurants were awarded a green star for their sustainable catering practices.

The prices in the star restaurants move in the upscale segment: main dishes often cost from 50 euros, while 8-course menus can be over 200 euros per person. Therefore, a reservation is extremely recommended - often even several weeks in advance. And even if the outfit can be kept more casual, punctuality is a must and a certain level of clothing is desired.

a culinary journey through Dresden

Dresden has established itself as a hotspot for gourmet lovers. If you have the star restaurants on your list, you can feast in the Villa Sorgefrei , where a classic French cuisine is offered with a modern twist. The Atelier Sanssouci spoils the guests with a creative mixture of classical and modern and was also awarded a Michelin star.

Overall, one can hold on: the star allocation is not only a flashing in the gastronomic landscape, but a sign of the quality of the culinary offers. The Guide Michelin has not only shaped the cultural identity of German gastronomy in recent decades, but also remains an indispensable guide for gourmets and connoisseurs today. The food is not only understood as food, but as an art form and experience that is very popular - especially in a city like Dresden that never gets out of fashion.
