Dresden in train fever: New connections to Hamburg, Prague and Vienna!
The Czech Railways (ČD) has big plans for the future of long-distance train connections from Dresden. How dnn.de reports, the 2026 timetable will include significantly more direct train connections to cities such as Hamburg, Prague, Vienna and even Copenhagen. This expansion will not only improve travel options, but also increase the attractiveness of rail transport.
A highlight of the new timetables is the connection to Copenhagen, which is planned for May 2024. The trains, which commute twice a day between Prague and Copenhagen, will stop in Dresden - at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. A third connection will even be introduced in the summer months to accommodate the travel needs of summer vacationers.
Increasing connections to Hamburg and Vienna
In the new timetable, the number of direct connections from Dresden to Hamburg will also be increased. From December 2023, the trains, which will operate under the name Railjet, will again take travelers from Berlin via Dresden to Vienna and Graz. But be careful, the stops on the way to Vienna have changed: in the future there will only be stops in Praha-Holešovice and the main station will no longer be served.
For night owls, there is also a new evening train from Prague to Dresden, which departs at 8:45 p.m. This could be particularly interesting for travelers who want to explore the city after a long day.
Comfort and prices at a glance
ČD's new ComfortJet trains are a real must for all travelers who value speed and comfort. They reach speeds of up to 230 km/h, which significantly shortens the travel time between Dresden and Hamburg. Smart travelers can also look forward to a variety of offers: for example, tickets from Prague to Ostrava cost around 26 euros and from Prague to Brno only around 21 euros. There is a reduced ticket price of 50% for seniors aged 65 and over; since December 2018, students and young adults have also been offered a discount of up to 50%.
Anyone interested can find all timetables and booking information centrally on the IDOS Jízdní řády platform, which is provided by Czech Railways. Tickets can be purchased at train stations, online or directly from the train attendant, although the latter requires a small additional payment. Payment in euros is possible at some train stations, which makes travel easier for international guests.
In summary, it can be said that the new long-distance transport to and from Dresden offers many new possibilities. Regardless of whether you decide on a weekend trip to Prague or a trip to Hamburg, the new connections make it easier than ever to get to your destination quickly. Further information about ČD's ComfortJet trains is available here ceskedrahy.cz visible and could make it easier for many travelers to plan their next trip.
With a sensible expansion of connections and a high level of travel comfort, rail transport in the region could remain strong and support travelers in their future projects. Whether for business trips or leisure, Czech Railways has the right offer for everyone.
