Dresden Monarchs in GFL Bowl: Home final against Potsdam Royals on October 11th!

In a thrilling semi-final game on September 28, 2025, the Dresden Monarchs defeated the Ravensburg Razorbacks 31:24 and thus secured their place in the final game for the German championship, the Erima GFL-Bowl. This will take place on October 11th at 5 p.m. in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium in Dresden. Monarchs head coach Greg Seamon was proud of his team after the game and emphasized the team effort.

The game started unfavorably for the Monarchs, who were down 3-0 in the first quarter due to a Razorbacks field goal. However, things turned in the second quarter. The Ravensburgers led with two touchdowns (7:3, 14:3), but the Monarchs showed their fighting spirit and equalized with a touchdown and a field goal, which made it 17:17 at halftime. They were finally able to take the lead themselves as the third quarter progressed, and despite a late Razorbacks touchdown in the fourth quarter, they secured the win.

Key games and players

A crucial role was played by quarterback Clifton McDowell, who replaced Justin Miller, who did not play due to a hand injury. After initial difficulties, McDowell found his rhythm and made a decisive contribution to the points. Particularly noteworthy was Tyler Hudson's spectacular touchdown, who scored a kick-off return across the field and thrilled the spectators. In the final minutes, the Ravensburgers tried to come back with an onside kick, won the ball, but were unable to score another touchdown.

The Monarchs now have the Potsdam Royals as their next opponent, who literally outclassed the Munich Cowboys 74:6 in the other semifinal. In the regular season, however, Dresden had clearly lost to Potsdam by 6:31, which is why it was time to settle the score, as McDowell clearly explained. “The Potsdam team will face a new team,” said the quarterback.

The GFL Bowl

The German Football League (GFL), in which the Monarchs have a home, is Germany's first Bundesliga for American football and has been held since 1979. With a current field of 16 teams, the competition has grown steadily and is becoming increasingly popular. The Potsdam Royals, representatives of the northern group, go into the final as reigning champions after winning last year. The Monarchs have never won a semi-final away from home before; all of their final appearances have been at home games. This makes the upcoming GFL Bowl a very special event for the Monarchs, especially since they unfortunately lost 21:27 last year.

With a solid strategy and the uncertainty that comes with every final encounter, the Monarchs are optimistic about the upcoming duel against the Royals in which they will do everything they can to secure the title. Excitement is in the air and the home fans are ready to loudly support their team.

For all football enthusiasts and those who want to become one, it's now time to go to Dresden, because the GFL Bowl promises to be a real spectacle! Who will ultimately win the championship as the culmination of the 2025 season in the Erima GFL? We can be excited!
