Dresden Marathon: record participants and dream victory for Van Vlerken!

On October 27, 2025, the runners celebrated a real marathon festival in Dresden. A new record was set with over 14,000 participants, which impressively demonstrated the enthusiasm for this sport in the city. The Dutch triathlete Yvonne van Vlerken was not only able to prove her class, but also won the women's competition with a time of 2:38:18. Not to forget, she is also a duathlon world champion and has already beaten the coveted “sub-9 hour” mark in the Roth long-distance competition. In 2025, she won the marathon title at the Rennsteiglauf in 3:02:20 hours, cementing her impressive status in the long distance.

Second place in the women's field went to the talented Agnieszka Glomb from Rosenheim, who also delivered a strong performance with a time of 2:58:56. For the men, Johannes Motschmann secured victory in the half marathon with a time of 1:03:29, while Blanka Dörfel won the women's half marathon with a great time of 1:11:44. This 22-year-old had previously taken second place at the German Half Marathon Championships and increased her personal best to 1:09:45.

Variety of distances

The event offered a variety of distances for all age groups: The **AOK 10-kilometer run** was open to participants aged 14 and over, while the **Piepenbrock Half Marathon** was 21.1 kilometers long and open to athletes aged 16 and over. There was also the classic marathon and the marathon relay over 42.195 kilometers, which was aimed at participants aged 18 and over. For the little ones, the **Bambini Run** (400 meters) took place for those born between 2018 and 2022, as well as the **Children's Marathon** (1.4 kilometers) for those born between 2011 and 2018. The wide range of offerings ensured that there was something for everyone and that the entire family could take part.

Marathon trend and records

The marathon scene is developing rapidly, not only in Germany but also internationally. Current records in the Ironman distances show that the athletes are chasing records. This is how we always manage to push the boundaries of what is possible. One example is Magnus Ditlev from Denmark, who set a world best time of 7:23:24 at Challenge Roth on July 7, 2024. Kristian Blummenfelt also knew how to impress in 2025 and left an impressive time of 7:24:20 at the Ironman Texas.

Marathons and triathlons are not only a sporting challenge, but also high-performance sports that demand a lot from both the athletes and the spectators and at the same time generate great enthusiasm. And with events like the one in Dresden, the sense of community that comes with the season can only continue to grow.

For all sports enthusiasts, the event in Dresden is another incentive to get active and try out new things. Who knows, maybe the next marathon training is already in the starting blocks!
