Dresden, Deutschland - The Theater Junge Generation (TJG) in Dresden is facing an exciting fresh start. From the coming season, the traditional theater, which is one of the largest children's and youth theaters in Germany, will be led by a new director duo. Ulrike Leßmann and Mihkel Seder, who were presented as a new management in a press conference on Thursday, take over the leadership of Felicitas Loewe, who gave up her post after 17 years. This change comes after an intensive phase of planning and realignment of the theater, which began in 2023 when the successor of the directorate, as MDR reports.
Ulrike Leßmann brings a variety of experiences. She has worked at the TJG since 2008, most recently as chief dramaturge. Her studies include law, German language and literature as well as theater and music management. Mihkel Seder, on the other hand, is an experienced dramaturge from Tallinn, Estonia, who has been chief dramaturge at the VAT theater since 2014. "It is important that we also tackle the loneliness that many young people feel," emphasizes Leßmann and points to the planned participatory projects that should offer employees space for their own creative work.
The TJG also plans to open the new season with an exciting project. Under the title "TJG becomes wild", 50 different performances and creative projects will be presented on the site of the Mitte power plant on September 6th and 7th. One of the highlights includes a Czech children's film entitled "The Blue Tiger" and the interactive staging "Powerplan" as part of the science year 2025, which includes the viewer into an experience course. In addition, the piece "Chocolate" is shown in the puppet theater, which deals with the topic of postcolonialism, according to the report by MDR.
