A celebration of new beginnings: St. Benno-Gymnasium welcomes international students
Today, August 17, 2025, a significant school year opening service will be celebrated at the St. Benno-Gymnasium in Dresden. The event takes place in the magnificent Dresden Kreuzkirche and brings together students, parents and the staff. The Protestant pastor Björn Fischer has the honorable task of welcoming those present and particularly welcomes the new 5th graders as well as international guests from higher grades who have become part of the school community.
Newcomers, whether among students or teachers, are warmly welcomed. As part of the ceremony, all new members of the school community receive symbolic ceramic fish, which were made with a lot of love and skill in the high school's own pottery workshop. This fish symbolism, deeply rooted in Christian tradition, represents Christ and is also reflected in the school logo, which depicts a key in the fish's mouth, an allusion to a legend of Saint Benno, the school's patron saint.
A special moment for everyone involved
In order to make the topic of fish symbolism tangible, the young people have prepared a creative play, which will be presented under the direction of educators Franziska Mellentin and Carolin Richter from the Religion Department. The musical background will be provided by the talented Dresden band boys, who will give their best on the organ under the direction of cathedral music director Christian Bonath and music teacher Ulrich Heine.
All of this shows how important community and tradition are on this special day. Such events build connections and create a sense of belonging, which is highly relevant today.
Current developments on the financial markets
The market reaction to the updated revenue forecast, which is 15% below analysts' expectations, is significantly negative, and Herc's net debt ratio, which has risen to 3.8x, creates uncertainty. Herc shares have been extremely volatile lately and have already fallen 33.4% this year. These price fluctuations make it clear that a company is being put to the test, while in Dresden the new school year is beginning full of hope and fresh ideas.
