Young Dresdeners dream of a new life on an old farm in Jessen!
In the small community of Niederau, more precisely in the town of Jessen, a special project is currently being set up. A plaque telling a dark story about a maid who threw a child into the toilet pit and was acquitted is causing a stir. The possible connection of this story with the past of the place is curious. Jessen celebrated its 750th anniversary three years ago and now has some beautifully renovated farms to offer, while others, like the farm described, are still in a critical condition. Sächsische.de reports, that the only still unpopular courtyard contains some amazingly attractive furnishings from the GDR era.
Verena and Markus, a young couple from the region, have decided to develop this farm into a housing project for people who want to live in the village. Verena, who grew up in Jessen, even has personal connections: her parents live nearby, and her brother was once the owner of the farm, who acquired it a few years ago but never wanted to move in there himself.
Sustainable living in focus
Verena came up with the idea for communal living four years ago, and nine adults have now joined the project. Unfortunately, due to some setbacks, many people dropped out. The youngest participant, Mara, currently lives in Radebeul and is looking forward to a new life in the village. In order to literally get the project on the right track, a cooperative is already being founded to purchase the farm. Each resident will pay a rental contribution, with the focus being on economical use of resources and regular arrangements.
An architect has already developed plans for the living areas, although the old house requires extensive renovation. The plans include seven residential units that will be between 50 and over 90 square meters in size. The first residents are expected to move in by the end of 2027, before Verena's son Fritz starts school.
to arouse interest
To generate further interest in this exciting project, two meetings for potential new roommates are planned on September 14th and 27th. The advance notices were spread throughout the region through flyers and posters. The response is eagerly awaited, as the vision of living in this small village steeped in stories is appealing to many.
Could this be the beginning of a new chapter in Jessen? While some enjoy scary stories, others dream of a shared and innovative life in the country. The history of the farm could take on true meaning - a story that is only beginning.
