The Nickern Children's and Youth Farm (KBJ) in Kauscha, Dresden, is a real insider tip for families and children. In 2023, this special place celebrated its 33rd anniversary. No matter whether on an exciting excursion or as part of a program for children and young people: Here you can immerse yourself in nature and experience country life up close.
The farm was founded by a committed parents' initiative from Prohlis after the fall of the Wall. At that time, an overgrown plot of land was purchased on which the KBJ could grow. Thanks to the support of various foundations and organizations, including the Flüwo Foundation and Aktion Mensch, this place has developed into a real paradise on the outskirts of the city, where children have the opportunity to discover country life and nature.
A real home for children
The KBJ grounds include a children's farmhouse, a stable, a mill and a youth garden. Baby courses, parent meetings and family consultations take place regularly in the children's farmhouse. The stable in particular has developed into a central contact point for open child and youth work. A solar system is currently being installed here, which will contribute to the sustainability of the project. Young and old come together in the youth garden, which is looked after by young people themselves and is part of the neighboring Gerbergrund garden section.
What could be nicer than visiting the farm on the weekends? In summer it is only open to visitors on weekends, as the holiday months are characterized by tent camps. Planned events include a harvest festival on September 27th, Walpurgis Night and an animal Christmas party.
Education in focus
An educational offensive for children and young people is at the top of the KBJ's priority list. The farm offers a variety of activities aimed at promoting children's well-being and increasing their social participation. Supporting families in social, economic and health matters is of great importance. There are also numerous funding opportunities provided by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as well as nationwide foundations to finance such projects.
The variety of funding available at local, state and federal levels ensures that institutions like the KBJ can continue to be supported. In addition, community foundations and private companies often offer financial support as part of their social responsibility. This help is essential to ensure high-quality offerings in child and youth education.
