Görlitz Old Town Festival 2025: Three days full of tradition and fun!

The old town festival in Görlitz, which has thrilled the city's citizens and guests for over three decades, opened its doors today on August 29, 2025. This festival was created over 31 years ago to celebrate the region's tradition, cultural diversity and hospitality. The first visitors streamed into the festively decorated old town at 4:00 p.m., and at 5:50 p.m. Mayor Octavian Ursu welcomed those present on the historic town hall steps.

An impressive parade through the streets of the city led to the Old Town Bridge, where the festival was ceremoniously opened by Ursu and his counterpart Rafał Gronicz at 6 p.m. The first beer keg is tapped at 7 p.m. - a popular custom that cannot be missed at the festive events.

A colorful program awaits visitors

As usual, guests can expect a varied program that lasts until Sunday, August 31, 2025. The concert highlight on Friday is the Nicci Schubert & Band and the rock band “The Florance”. On Saturday, entertainment will not only be provided with a youth brass orchestra and a puppet stage, but there will also be a skilled workers' fair in the town hall, where job opportunities will be presented. On Sunday, a large musical fireworks display crowns the festivities.

  • Freitag: Nicci Schubert & Band, „never walk alone“, Rock-Band „The Florance“
  • Samstag: Fachkräftebörse, Folk-Band „The Trouble Notes“ und Tanzabend
  • Sonntag: JugendShowOrchester, Richard Fuhrmann & Band

Another highlight is the traditional washing trough regatta, which takes place on Saturday at 4 p.m. and will attract many spectators to the banks of the Neisse. Parallel to the Old Town Festival, the neighboring town of Zgorzelec and the Jakuby Festival celebrate with their own parade and an artistic program.

Traffic and safety during the festival

For visitors from the surrounding area, access from Bohemia and Lusatia is possible via several routes, including the A4 and B99. In order to make travel easier, local public transport has been equipped with extended timetables for the festival weekend. However, passengers should note the full closures in the festival area, which come into force from August 27th.

There are important tips for spectators regarding safety during the fireworks display on Sunday evening, which will take place between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. It is also recommended to use the “Am Hirschwinkel” parking facility, which is accessible using a key and requires a deposit.

The Old Town Festival not only promises numerous entertainment offerings, but also the opportunity to capture memories. Visitors are invited to submit their photos and stories from past festivals, which could become part of an exhibition. The festival was initiated by the Görlitzer Kulturservicegesellschaft mbH and is proof of the city's vibrant culture. Further information and details about the program can be found on the website www.altstadtfest-goerlitz.com.

We wish all guests a lot of fun, a good mood and unforgettable experiences at this year's Old Town Festival!
