Autonomous bus starts on Lake Bärwalder: a new driving pleasure!

At the Bärwalder See there has been an exciting new traffic service since today. An autonomously driving bus called "EZ10" ensures a fresh air in public transport. As MDR , the vehicle has been on the route between "Klitten Bahnhof" and "Klitten Bärwalder See Skanpark “on the way. This means that guests at the lake now have a simple and free way to explore the surroundings.

The bus runs daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on a distance of about four kilometers, which is covered in 20 minutes. The bus can currently reach a speed of up to 18 kilometers per hour, which is intended to help it to manage the special challenges in rural areas. The air -conditioned bus offers space for six people and the trip is free for everyone. The project is supported by the TU Dresden , the Fraunhofer Institute Zittau and the Zweckverband Verkehrsverbund Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien (Zvon) .

important technologies in use

The "EZ10" is not entirely on the road without a human driver. In special driving situations, such as turning or turning, the driver becomes active. He also has the option of switching to manual driving in the event of disorders. During this test phase, the team will collect data behind the project in order to further optimize the sensors of the bus. In the future, this could contribute to the fact that autonomous driving will become even safer.

The project not only marks a step into the future of mobility on Lake Bärwalder, but is also in line with developments in public transport infrastructure. According to vdv , modern, autonomously driving public transport shuttles are an important aspect in order to optimize the fine distribution of traffic. These transport offers could play a crucial role in urban and rural traffic in the future and thus redistribute the space for roads and parking spaces in our cities.

With the focus on environmentally friendly and needs -based mobility, it becomes clear that autonomous buses are not only a technical innovation, but also a contribution to the quality of life in our cities and the connection of rural spaces. We are excited to see how the "EZ10" will improve mobility around the Bärwalder See!
