Drug smuggling in the Görlitz area: Police seize 40,000 euros!

There are currently several headlines in Görlitz that are causing both excitement and concern. The local police have reported a real drug discovery, while at the same time several incidents related to traffic accidents and vandalism are keeping the population busy. What's going on here locally?

According to information from Sächsische.de The police confiscated drugs worth around 40,000 euros during a search operation. The accused include a 52-year-old German and a 23-year-old Syrian. During investigations at several properties and vehicles, a total of 3 kg of marijuana, 140 g of cocaine, 62 g of ecstasy tablets and 300 tramadol tablets were found. In addition, the police were able to seize 1,400 euros in cash. The Syrian suspect is now in custody on a judge's order and the investigation into violations of the Narcotics Act continues.

Safe and dangerous roads

But the drug problem is not the only thing that concerns the police. Road traffic also causes alarm signals. Accurate data shows that the number of traffic accidents under the influence of drugs in Germany increased between 2004 and 2023, which does not go unnoticed. In Görlitz there are always reports of worrying incidents behind the wheel. A 38-year-old driver was recently stopped while on drugs, which once again drew the police's attention to the dangers on the road that can arise from drug abuse ( Statista ).

An example from the region: In Zittau, a 34-year-old was stopped who was not only driving without a driver's license, but also without insurance and under the influence of drugs. These incidents highlight the urgency of taking preventative measures and raising awareness of the dangers of drugs on the roads.

Vandals and burglars active

There are also increasing reports of vandalism and break-ins. In Kodersdorf, anti-constitutional symbols were discovered in a playground, which brought state security into action. A case of vandalism that also worries other citizens and once again raises the question: How safe is our neighborhood?

At the same time, the police in Deschka investigated a break-in in which a VW and an e-bike worth around 17,000 euros were stolen. The material damage from the theft amounts to around 150 euros. Regardless of the apparent value of the loot, the community is urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Overall, the current situation in Görlitz shows a picture that makes you think. While the police are trying to combat drug offenses and burglaries, it is hoped that through more education and cooperation, peace will soon return to the area.
