Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences: New structures for the future 2030+!

This initiative is part of the ambitious “Concept for University Development 2030+” and aims to promote the qualification of academic specialists. Since 2020, over 1,000 perspectives from the university and the surrounding area have been collected as part of the “University4Future” process. This results in a new faculty structure that will come into force on September 1, 2027. In the future, the HSZG will have three faculties: business, technology and society. This change is intended not only to strengthen interdisciplinary teaching and research, but also to reduce bureaucracy and make study organization more efficient.
Study organization and new facilities
Another highlight of the realignment is the 6+4 model of study organization, which is intended to enable shorter study times. The popular diploma in engineering (FH) is still offered as a dual study program (KIA). In addition, at least one English-language bachelor's and one master's degree program will be available in each focus area.
From the 2026/2027 academic year, the establishment of three new central facilities is also planned: a digital service center for digitalization and process management, the Neisse Talent & Innovation Hub for research, transfer and internationalization, and the Center for Sport and Health, which offers sports and health management. The existing structures, such as the university computer center and the center for eLearning, will be integrated into these new facilities.
Accompanying measures and future outlook
The implementation of these far-reaching measures is taking place gradually and is accompanied by workshops and various participation formats. The University Council, Senate and governing bodies are behind this transformation, which is intended to increase the number of students to 3,000 by 2030 and further expand research performance through third-party funding and the exercise of social responsibility.

It is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the country and focuses on holistic and interdisciplinary teaching with a focus on economics, technology, social affairs and design.
