Young ultras inspire SC Großschweidnitz-Löbau with football fever!
In Upper Lusatia, more precisely in Großschweidnitz-Löbau, things are lively on and off the pitch. SC Großschweidnitz-Löbau managed to impress in the eighth league in the past 2024/25 season, even if the team only finished in ninth place in the table. On the last matchday the team had to be content with a 2-2 draw against TSG Lawalde, but still won the support of their special fans: the “Ultras”. This group consists of 20 to 25 young supporters aged 8 to 13 who gloriously show off the club's colors of blue and white with singing, clapping and bright Bengalos.
“Where did this great idea come from?” some people might ask. The answer is simple: from young coach Sebastian Müller. He encouraged the children to get behind the team and gave them a space where they could not only enjoy football, but also experience team spirit and community. The “Ultras” got hold of a few fan items with their own pocket money and even rehearsed songs to loudly cheer on their team. The parents support the little ones by taking them to away games - a real community project!
A sign of gratitude
The connection between the team and the young fans is remarkable. At the end of the season, the team thanked the “Ultras” in a very special way. A banner with a photo of the children and the inscription “You for us, we for you, thank you Ultras” was an emotional highlight for everyone involved. Müller highlights the positive development of cheering and notes that this type of support is motivating for both the players and the children. But the coach also has his own journey behind him: after 20 years in men's football, he is farewelled as captain.
The search for a breath of fresh air continues, as a new coach, Stephan Fröhlich, who was previously active at FCO Neugersdorf, is already in the starting blocks. He will undoubtedly inspire the team and provide new impetus. As they say in the region: “There’s something going on!”
Association with tradition and innovation
The Großschweidnitz-Löbau sports club was founded in 2015 through the merger of the clubs FSV Empor Löbau and SG Medizin Großschweidnitz and currently has around 240 members. The club attaches great importance to youth work and is therefore always looking for young and committed footballers. Under the motto “The future is here”, trained trainers offer high-quality training for children and young people in order to develop the next generation of football talent.
A variety of events are being planned: A final tournament in the second black league for the F-youth will take place on June 21st and 22nd, followed by the anniversary celebration of the sports club's tenth anniversary on July 1st. The current results include a draw for the D youth, which secured the relay win, and a championship title for the F youth with 17 wins and only one defeat.
Especially today, when traditional club structures are facing challenges, it is important to focus on future-oriented club development. The German Football Association (DFB) emphasizes that clubs should consciously highlight their strengths in order to create a distinctive profile and offer attractive offers - both in the sporting and social areas. Innovative club concepts and the involvement of members are of central importance in order to inspire new generations for football and the community.
It remains to be seen whether the “Ultras” from Großschweidnitz will win even more young fans in the coming years. Ole Ulbrich, one of the committed members of this young fan movement, expresses the wish that the team could become champions. Maybe this dream will soon become a reality - we'll stay tuned!
