Accident chaos and crimes: Görlitz police have their hands full!

A lot happened in Görlitz and the surrounding area on August 11, 2025. Police were called to several incidents ranging from traffic accidents to criminal acts. Of particular note are an overtaking accident and several cases of drunk driving.

In Waldhufen there was an accident on the Wilhelminental road in which a 77-year-old overtook a 65-year-old cyclist. Fortunately, the cyclist was only slightly injured, but property damage amounted to around 200 euros. Another traffic accident occurred on Sunday morning on the B99 in Zittau, where a 60-year-old drove into a stopped Toyota when the traffic light turned yellow. Here too, the injuries were minor and the property damage was estimated at around 10,000 euros.

Drunken road users

The police also had to deal with several drunken road users. In Großschönau, a 66-year-old cyclist was checked at the wheel of his e-bike with a blood alcohol level of 1.12, whereupon a complaint was made for drunk driving. Another incident in Groß Düben shocked the officials: a 19-year-old Fiat driver who did not have a driving license collided with a truck and had a blood alcohol level of 1.88 when checked. Both vehicles were then classified as no longer drivable.

In Görlitz, a 34-year-old driver with a blood alcohol level of 1.9 was also checked because she was involved in an accident that caused material damage of around 1,500 euros. The officers received support in another incident when a 46-year-old cyclist fell and sustained injuries under the influence of 2.32 per mille, which led to a report for endangering road traffic.

Crime and suspicious activity reports

In addition, there was a suspicion of diesel theft in Görlitz when a 30-year-old was checked with empty canisters and a garden hose. Drug use is also suspected. A 35-year-old man was caught at a checkpoint with a banned switchblade and the police filed a complaint for violating the weapons law.

In total, a 34-year-old was arrested in Görlitz on Sunday for failing to pay a fine, while a 28-year-old was checked for drugs and an existing arrest warrant. A simple arrest option was also used as part of the investigation.

In a further case, young people were caught after trespassing in Görlitz when they entered a building without authorization. The reports of xenophobic insults on a bus in Zittau and a children's fire in an empty building in Weißwasser make it clear that the police are currently also confronted with social problems.

The police are also looking for witnesses to a serious traffic accident with six injuries in Rothenburg, which happened on the same day. The investigation is in full swing. The situation in Görlitz shows that it is necessary to remain vigilant and strengthen the community in order to minimize such incidents.

Citizens can only hope that the police measures will sustainably improve security in the region. Stay safe and careful on the roads and report illegal activities immediately!
