Waldbrand in Gohrischheide: 700 emergency services are fighting against the flames!
Gohrischheide, Deutschland - The Situation in the Gohrischheide remains tense. Around 700 firefighters, including about 25 from the Görlitz district, are in tireless efforts to curb a massive forest fire. With over 2100 hectares that are affected, the region faces a huge challenge. As the Sächsische Zeitung reports, flame embers again and again and threaten adjacent forest areas.
The emergency services are partly compared to the meter -high flames and work around the clock under extreme conditions. "The dynamics of the event is high, our strengths are at the limit," says Matthias Krause, spokesman for the fire brigade. At this point, the "Waldbrand" disaster protection train from the Görlitz district is also in use, supported by units from cities such as Weißwasser and Rietschen as well as air support from the Bundeswehr and fire -fighting helicopter.
evacuation and dangers
Some places in the area had had to be evacuated since July 3.. Around 100 residents, including 45 people from a home for severely disabled people, were evacuated from the Heidehäuser district, such as the tag24 reported. However, there is good news: On July 4, the evacuation for the Neudorf district was lifted because the situation there is under control. Nevertheless, the fears of the residents around their belongings are omnipresent, and the evacuation went smoothly, but remains present in the minds of those affected.
The dangers of the fire are not only felt for people. The air quality in Saxony has deteriorated due to the fire, with an increased soot concentration in cities such as Radebeul and Dresden. Habitats of rare plants and animals in the Gohrischheide are also threatened, which makes the situation even more alarming.
Climate day and the risk of forest fire
climate change plays a central role in this topic. According to an analysis of Statista , forest fires in Germany are increasingly a problem, favored by the increasingly frequent dry and heat period. In 2023, over 1,200 hectares were lost in Germany by forest fires, but the number of fires was declining overall. For 2022, however, the highest loss in the past 30 years was recorded with over 3,000 hectares - a worrying trend.
In the current events, it is again shown how quickly such fire can spread. Historically, the region is not unknown to its forest and field fires, especially in times of extreme drought. According to Matthias Krause, the current weather conditions increase the number of missions. »
The forest fire in Gohrischheide keeps the emergency services busy, and while the flames have many challenges, the fire brigade remains strong and tireless. A big thank you for your efforts under difficult conditions!
