Hooligan riots after the derby: Auerbach's fans clashed!
On Friday, the thrilling derby in the 5th league between VfB Auerbach and VFC Plauen ended with a dramatic 2-2 draw. The encounter, which was watched by around 1,906 spectators, not only had its impact on the pitch, but also caused a lot of excitement in the spectator stands. As Bild reports, the Auerbachers took the lead early on, but Plauen responded and turned the game around in the meantime. However, in stoppage time, the Auerbachers equalized with a penalty, which further fueled emotions on both sides.
After the final whistle there were arguments between the fan camps. The Plauen supporters set off pyrotechnics in the Vogtlandweide arena during the game and caused damage to the fence of the Auerbach train station as they arrived. As a result, some Plauen fans tried to climb over the fence, but were stopped by stewards. Around 14 home fans then tried to get to the Plauen supporters, which led to a massive police operation. This used direct coercion to separate the rival groups. Nevertheless, two Auerbachers and a Plauen fan were injured in the clashes.
Riot at the clubhouse
Another incident occurred around midnight when around 20 masked people from the Plauen fan scene attacked the VfB Auerbach clubhouse. In addition to kicking in two panes of glass, these aggressors also threw beer bottles at the building, but were unable to enter. This caused material damage estimated at 500 euros. A 29-year-old Auerbach fan sustained a minor injury in this attack. The police immediately launched a search and located two vehicles with ten suspects between the ages of 16 and 49.
The investigation is ongoing on suspicion of a breach of the peace. The clique surrounding the Plauen fans not only shows that rivalries in football sometimes lead to acts of violence, but also how important it is that the security forces act quickly and decisively.
Although the derby in Auerbach was not for the faint of heart, it shows the passionate rivalry between the two clubs and suggests that such encounters mean much more than just a game. In Germania, everyone involved, players and fans alike, must try to give love of football priority over violent confrontations.
In a broader context, VfB Auerbach is well-known in German football, although it plays in a lower league. Clubs like VfB Stuttgart, which plays in the Bundesliga, have similar, albeit less violent, rivalries. Stuttgart, founded in 1893, has caused a sensation both in the football world and beyond, with five national championship titles and a string of cup wins, showing just how diverse the football culture is in Germany.
