Insect world in focus: New exhibition in Dresden delights visitors!

There is something new to discover in Saxony again. The special exhibition “iNUVERSUMM – Space and Time for Insects” opened at the Senckenberg Nature Museum in Dresden. This exciting exhibition is dedicated to the diversity of insects and their protection options. Did you know that insects are the largest group of animals in the world? There are over a million species on our planet, but their numbers are declining dramatically, including here.

More than 30,000 species of insects live in Germany. The exhibition aims to encourage people to change their view of these small creatures. A central point within the exhibition is the so-called NatureLAB, where visitors large and small have the opportunity to look at insects under the microscope. There is also an excavation site for fossil hunting - the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of insects.

A look into the water

Another highlight is a high-tech pond that digitally presents the underwater world of insects. Visitors can explore the insects' habitats in the water using a practical rotating wheel. There are also valuable tips on how to create insect-friendly ponds, which will certainly be of interest to many garden lovers.

Globally, insects have suffered an alarming 75 percent reduction in biomass in recent decades, making their protection all the more urgent. The exhibition runs from October 30, 2025 to August 16, 2026 in the Japanese Palace, Palaisplatz 11, in Dresden. Opening times are from Wednesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's the perfect opportunity to take an educational trip with family and friends while learning about the conservation of this important group of animals.

The iNUVERSUMM participatory project offers great suggestions and practical tips to actively contribute to protecting insects. Here everyone is invited to do something for nature. The exhibition should definitely not be missed because it not only arouses curiosity, but also makes it clear how important our little friends are to the ecosystem. So, off to the next journey of discovery in the fascinating kingdom of insects!
