Be careful, speed cameras! Today 5 speed offenders are wanted in Leipzig!

On July 11, 2025, the police will be active again in Leipzig to ensure more safety in road traffic. Mobile speedometers are used at several locations to monitor speeders. There are a total of five speed cameras that are available at different locations throughout the day to monitor road users' speed. The police in Saxony keep a watchful eye on the streets and show that they want to continuously counter the dangers in road traffic. But where exactly does the flash occur?

The designated speed camera locations are as follows:

  • Leipzig, Ludwig-Erhard-Straße (04103 Mitte) – Tempolimit 50 km/h, 19:08 Uhr
  • Leipzig, Stötteritzer Landstraße (04288 Südost) – Tempolimit 50 km/h, 19:04 Uhr
  • Leipzig, Louise-Otto-Peters-Allee (04159 Nordwest) – Tempolimit 70 km/h, 18:52 Uhr
  • Leipzig, Johannisallee (04103 Mitte) – Tempolimit 50 km/h, 19:13 Uhr
  • Leipzig, Schönefelder Allee (04347 Nordost) – Tempolimit 30 km/h, 19:07 Uhr

Rules and sanctions

Exceeding the speed limit can have serious consequences. Speeding is not only one of the most common traffic violations, but also the main cause of accidents in Germany. Anyone who drives too fast in and out of town will face fines, points in Flensburg or even driving bans. The fines are clearly regulated and vary depending on the amount of the violation. In urban areas, the catalog of fines provides for the following penalties:

Speeding (in urban areas) Fine (€)
up to 10 km/h 30
11 – 15 km/h 50
16 – 20 km/h 70
21 – 25 km/h 115
26 – 30 km/h 180 (1 month driving ban possible)
31 – 40 km/h 260 (1 month driving ban)
41 – 50 km/h 400 (1 month driving ban)
51 – 60 km/h 560 (2 months driving ban)
61 – 70 km/h 700 (3 months driving ban)
over 70 km/h 800 (3 months driving ban)

The punishment is slightly different outside of town. Here the fines for speeding are also staggered and range from 20 euros for exceeding the speed limit by up to 10 km/h to 700 euros for exceeding the speed limit by more than 70 km/h.

View of the speed camera controls

The mobility of speed cameras is particularly important as the danger situation in road traffic can constantly change. Therefore, mobile speed cameras may need to be adjusted in order to respond effectively to the current situation. Road users should therefore not only rely on fixed locations. In addition, radar detectors that warn of speed camera locations are banned in Germany. Carrying such devices also has consequences.

A look at the traffic situation in the city shows that the police and regional regulatory authorities are increasingly relying on speed controls to increase traffic safety. Road users are advised to stick to speed limits, not only to avoid fines, but also for their own safety and that of others on the road.
