Inclusive sport for everyone
The German Para Badminton Championship is not only a sporting event, but also a symbol of inclusion and fairness in top-class sport. Adjustments to the rules and game formats enable athletes with a wide range of physical impairments to compete at the highest level. How Barrier-free magazine Coincidentally mentioned, para-badminton officially became part of the Paralympic program after the 2020 Paralympic Games. Participants are divided into different classes to ensure competition between athletes with similar abilities.
The organizers have also thought of everything in terms of logistics: medical care, physiotherapy and a wheelchair service are available on site. And the spectators have also been thought of - they are cordially invited to attend the competitions and cheer on the athletes. Registration is necessary and takes place via the DBV online registration by November 7, 2024. ATV Volkmarsdorf also highlights a hotel recommendation - the inclusion hotel Markleeberger Hof is just a stone's throw away from the hall.
Diverse competition classes
The athletes are divided into different classes: WH1 and WH2 for wheelchair players and SL3, SL4, SU5 and SH6 for standing players. This classification ensures that competitors compete in a fair environment. The standard of the game remains high - the basic rules remain true to those of regular badminton, with a net height of 1.55 m and a best-of-three format.
Players can look forward to singles, doubles and mixed disciplines, which will be played in a friendly, competitive spirit. Basically, para-badminton covers various impairments, including muscle weakness, athetosis and short stature, so that there is a suitable category for every participant.
The 2nd German Para Badminton Championship 2025 in Leipzig will not only be a first-class sporting event, but also a significant step towards inclusion in sport. Come by and experience the fascination of para badminton up close!
