Big steps for Lok Leipzig: New sports center at the Bruno Plache Stadium!

An exciting innovation is coming to the Bruno Plache Stadium in Leipzig: the groundbreaking ceremony for two new artificial turf pitches has taken place. This project marks the largest single construction project to be completed on the site in the last 50 years. The investment of 2.7 million euros is aimed not only at improving the infrastructure, but also at the football training of the children's and youth teams. Environmentally friendly planning, which has already become a positive part of the project, is also very important.

With the construction of a large field according to UEFA standards (105 x 68 m) and a small field (67 x 38 m), the youth teams will be offered a significantly improved training environment. The whole thing is complemented by 18 spotlights, 500 meters of ball-stopping fences and two prefabricated garages. Craziness! A total of 600 tons of earth and building material will be moved and 11,700 square meters of artificial turf will be laid - a huge achievement!

Promotion and support

This mammoth project is largely financed through public funds: the Free State of Saxony is covering around half of the costs at 1.3 million euros, while the city of Leipzig is contributing 1.1 million euros. The club itself also brings in its own funds and services amounting to 300,000 euros. Frank Viereckl, member of the executive board of 1. FC Lok, emphasized that the construction of the new pitches will significantly improve the training conditions for the youth teams. Heiko Rosenthal, Mayor of Leipzig, also noted that with its investment of 1.1 million euros, the city is creating the basis for better training opportunities for young talents.

The project is not only a great opportunity for the club, but also an important measure to promote popular sport in the region. Jens Peter Hirschmann, Chairman of the Lok Supervisory Board, expressed his positive feeling about the project and the long development phase of around five years that was necessary to put this project into practice.

Environmentally friendly approaches

Sustainability plays a crucial role in this construction project. The training lighting is installed at 75 lux, while the lamps have a color temperature of 3,000 Kelvin to protect native bat species. Furthermore, there is no use of harmful plastic particles and a well thought-out drainage system that optimizes the ability to store and use water for irrigation. A well-thought-out plan that shows that attention is not only paid to sport, but also to the environment.

A total of around 9 million euros and countless hours of work have been invested in the stadium over the last 12 years. Thomas Löwe, chairman of the funding committee, emphasizes the importance of these investments for the future of the association.

Hugo Eichler, a U19 player, sums it up: “The new pitch will greatly improve the training opportunities for our team, because up until now we often had to share pitches.” It remains exciting to see how the new conditions will affect the young people's sporting development.

The Bruno Plache Stadium will thus become a center for football training and not only promote talent, but also a sense of community. This is a great affair for the city, which is being realized thanks to the cooperation with ministries, authorities and numerous helpers in the region. The future of football in Leipzig looks promising!
