HSV fights bravely, but loses 1:2 against Leipzig – Poulsen disappointed!

Hamburger SV had a bitter day in the Bundesliga last Saturday. Although the team performed strongly, the away game against RB Leipzig was lost 1-2. On the pitch, HSV showed some remarkable actions, but were unable to collect the much-needed points. How NDR reported that the game was particularly painful for the new captain Yussuf Poulsen, who has only been in the squad for a short time.

The striker, who moved from RB Leipzig in the summer, had only played 50 minutes until this game because he was injured early in the season. Coach Merlin Polzin emphasized at a press conference before the game that Poulsen was now fit and ready to help the team. He saw potential in Poulsen, who was still receiving little playing time despite the financial investment in his signing the previous season. “We have already had a lot of discussions and Yussuf is ready, even if he won't play the full 90 minutes against Leipzig,” said Polzin, as in Yahoo Sports is to be read.

Exciting twists in the game

The game itself had some exciting twists and turns. Christoph Baumgartner gave Leipzig the lead in the 45th minute. But HSV showed fighting spirit and equalized through Albert Lokonga just three minutes after the restart. The joy didn't last long, however, as Baumgartner scored his second goal just two minutes later. Despite further opportunities, including a shot from Jean-Luc Dompé that hit the outside post (71st minute), HSV was unable to equalize. Poulsen came on as a substitute for Königsdörffer in the 76th minute, but was unable to turn things around.

Leipzig then cleverly managed their narrow lead until the end of the game. Despite an appealing performance, HSV had to come to terms with empty-handed. This defeat is all the more bitter because it overshadows the previously positive results in the Bundesliga, where HSV previously went three games in a row without defeat.

A farewell with great effort

Speaking of Yussuf Poulsen: After the game, the striker was seen off by his former club in an emotional choreography with gifts. This shows the appreciation that he was shown at RB Leipzig. Poulsen himself has made it clear that he believes Hamburger SV belongs in the Bundesliga and his return to form could be the key to that.

HSV will be dependent on Poulsen's development for the coming games, because the rest of the season must urgently focus on points in order to do good business in the middle of the table. How Poulsen will perform in the next matches remains to be seen. In the meantime, fans are excited to see when he can show his first, truly meaningful minutes on the pitch - and whether the team can get back on the road to success with him.
