Jan Zimmermann: New assistant coach at RB Leipzig until 2027!

Football has once again proven its dynamism in the Bundesliga! Jan Zimmermann, who most recently coached Borussia Dortmund's U23s, is moving to RB Leipzig as assistant coach with immediate effect. The 41-year-old coach has signed a contract until 2027. This is an exciting step for Zimmermann, because after a difficult time at Dortmund, where he suffered a negative series and major relegation concerns, he is now looking for a new challenge in the top German league. Ruhr24 reports that his successor at BVB, Mike Tullberg, was also unable to prevent relegation to the regional league.

Zimmermann's coaching career began in the Bundesliga when he took Hannover 96 under his wing in 2021. Before that he worked at TSV Havelse. At RB Leipzig he will be mainly responsible for the set pieces and will be part of the new coaching team around Ole Werner, Tom Cichon, Patrick Kohlmann and goalkeeping coach Frederik Gößling. Those responsible at Leipzig, including Managing Director Sport Marcel Schäfer, expressed themselves extremely satisfied with the new signing. The club has already made 16 personnel changes to the professional team this summer break, which indicates a complete change. The district newspaper highlights that RB Leipzig has, among other things, signed former Schalke coach David Wagner as the new youth boss.

A start to the new season

After his time at BVB, it is a new beginning for Zimmermann in a top-class environment. In Leipzig, where the demands are high and the expectations are correspondingly high, this could be the perfect place for him to prove himself. Zimmermann's strengths in working with set pieces could make the difference for Leipzig, who performed strongly last season. Transfermarkt is holding on that coaching changes in the Bundesliga often mean a break with old patterns and can provide new impulses.

Jan Zimmermann is an example of how setbacks do not have to mean the end, but can also be the beginning of a new chapter. The football world will be following his new path at RB Leipzig with excitement, and we can look forward to seeing how the collaboration with the coaching team develops.
