Long night of science in Leipzig: discoveries and adventures!
On Friday, June 20, 2025, a real science festival will take place again in Leipzig: The Long Night of Sciences! Over 650 events are waiting for visitors who take place at more than 50 locations throughout the city. From 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Leipzig opens its doors to a dazzling program that inspires young and old.
Already at the opening is offered something very special for the guests. The Leipzig science award was awarded between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Clinic for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the Leipzig University Hospital. This year, two personalities can look forward to the honor: the pediatrician Antje Körner, professor of metabolism research at the University of Leipzig, and the civil engineer Alexander Stahr from the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences. The price is endowed with 10,000 euros, which underlines the importance of this award.
program highlights and insights into science
A particularly exciting highlight will be the atmospheric chemiel laboratory at the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research. Scientist Yarê Baker will give an insight into her research on chemical processes in the atmosphere in the evening. This is primarily about the formation of particles and their influence on the climate. Guests can not only look forward to exciting lectures, but also to a large reaction reactor that makes the fascinating world of chemistry tangible.
In the Saxon Academy of Sciences, the program becomes even more versatile. So visitors can discover Buddhist paintings on the Silk Road with a virtual experience or even make calls with Clara Schumann. Workshops and lectures on topics such as ancient Egyptian medicine, magical amulets and dance lessons in the courtyard of the academy ensure a wide range of knowledge transfer and entertainment.
logistics and access for everyone
A special bus line from Augustusplatz to the science park will be set up for the journey. In the city, the cyclists have numerous next bike stations available for an uncomplicated bike rental. Entry to all events is free of charge, which makes the long night of sciences a wonderful experience for every budget. The event boards are designed in such a way that they are already accessible to families and children from 4 p.m., which ensures that the youngest also enjoy the exciting offers.
A total of up to 15,000 visitors are expected who can be carried away into the world of science and research for an evening. So if you are interested in new knowledge, participation offers and artistic performances, you should not miss this appointment!
