Lok Leipzig: License for the 3rd league – but promotion doesn’t happen!
1. FC Lok Leipzig can breathe a sigh of relief! The German Football Association (DFB) has granted the traditional club admission to the 3rd league for the 2025/26 season. A relief for those responsible who have given everything in the last few weeks to create the necessary framework conditions. Managing director Martin Mieth was enthusiastic about the decision, which certifies the club's economic and technical-organizational performance. However, there remains a bitter aftertaste, because the sporting promotion was missed in the relegation games against Havelse, which somewhat clouds the joy of the admission, as Bild reports.
The team had worked hard for weeks to meet the requirements, including building a lawn heater. Despite the success, the club can look back on an extremely intense time. Mieth thanked all supporters who contributed to the positive outcome and emphasized the great potential that Lok Leipzig offers. On a positive note, the club also received approval for the regional league without any conditions. This was also confirmed by lok-leipzig.com.
Challenges with the wooden bleachers
There remains a certain unease about the use of the listed wooden stand, which will be used again in the first round of the DFB Cup against Schalke 04 on August 17th. There are fire safety concerns that still need to be clarified. This could be a crucial issue for the club.
At the moment, Lok is also showing off his best sporting side. In the first test match of the new preparation, the team won 3-1 against Stahl Brandenburg (from the 6th league). New signing Jonas Arcalean scored his first goal in the 37th minute, followed by a goal from trial player Tjark Hildebrandt in the 66th minute and another from striker Stefan Maderer in the 74th minute. Brandenburg was able to reduce the score to 3-1, but the victory speaks for the good start to the preparation.
Promotion of the U19s
Speaking of promotion – Lok Leipzig’s U19s can also be happy. They secured promotion to the regional league with a 2-1 and a 3-3 win against Empor Berlin. Another reason to be happy for those responsible and the club's supporters, who hope for a successful future.
Overall, there is hope for a positive season in the coming third league season. The DFB had a total of 45 applicants from the 3rd league and regional league, which means the competition is enormous. Now it is not only important to face the sporting challenges, but also to overcome the administrative hurdles that the association's requirements bring with them, as can also be read on DFB.
