Ole Werner as RB Leipzig's new coach: A move with Europe as the goal!

After intensive negotiations, it is now official: Ole Werner will be the new coach of RB Leipzig. The 37-year-old, who was most recently under contract with SV Werder Bremen, was introduced in his new role on July 11, 2025. “I had a very good feeling during the discussions,” said Werner about the decision, which is also of great importance for the Leipzig club management.

Werner, who was born in Preetz on May 4, 1988, looks back on a successful time in Bremen, where he worked from November 2021 until the end of the 2024/25 season. Under his leadership, he was promoted from the second division to the Bundesliga, and he was able to reach places 13, 9 and 8 with the Green-Whites in his three Bundesliga seasons. Overall, he collected a points average of 1.44 during his 128 games as head coach in Bremen. However, in his duels against RB Leipzig he had to manage without a win: three defeats and three draws.

Contract and transfer

Werner's move to Leipzig wasn't a coincidence. RB Leipzig was immediately interested and, according to Deichstube, paid Werder Bremen a transfer fee of around two million euros, which includes bonus payments. Werner's contract in Bremen was originally dated until 2026, but the young coach decided not to extend it and informed the club management, who quickly complied with his wish and fired him the next day.

Leipzig's goal is clear: the club wants to qualify for international business again after a mixed season. Werner will be asked to build on the club's home strength and improve the statistics against Werder Bremen, as the first meeting between the two teams will take place in Leipzig on matchday 11 - a real highlight for the fans.

Coaching style and ambitions

His coaching style is characterized by structured ball possession, quick transitions and excellent pressing. Werner, who was active in football not only as a coach but also as a player at Holstein Kiel, has earned a reputation as a flexible tactician who knows how to form a unit and manage expectations in the press. Leipzig's managing director Marcel Schäfer highlights Werner's philosophy as "very suitable" for the club's ambitions, which further motivates the new coach.

Werner himself also brings experience from his time in Australia, where he briefly worked as a gardener to finance his travels. Such experiences contribute to his broad horizons and human understanding as a coach, which is also highly valued by those responsible at Bundesliga.

The fans of RB Leipzig are hoping that their new coach will have a good hand for transfers and a return to international business. It remains to be seen whether Werner can shine in his new role, but one thing is certain: the coming months promise to be exciting.
