Parkstadt Leipzig: 600 new apartments for better living!

Housing construction in Parkstadt Leipzig is picking up speed. On June 18, 2023, Instone Real Estate and the Wohnungsbau-Genossenschaft Kontakt e.G. celebrated the progress of three new apartment buildings with a total of 59 residential units. On this celebratory occasion, a time capsule was symbolically sunk to capture the hopes and dreams of future residents. These new buildings are part of a comprehensive neighborhood development plan that is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027 and will offer a variety of housing options. L-IZ reports that a total of around 600 apartments are being built in Parkstadt Leipzig, including 90 socially supported units.

In spring 2024, the housing cooperative acquired 23 subsidized apartments, which are located in three townhouses in the southern area of Parkstadt. These apartments were completed in May 2024 and offer a living space between 59 and 83 m², including balconies or small terraces. Jörg Keim, CEO of WBG Kontakt, emphasized the importance of these socially subsidized apartments and emphasized the successful collaboration with Instone Real Estate. LeipzigInfo adds that more than half of the planned construction projects are already being completed.

Construction progress and future plans

With two of the three new buildings in shell construction and construction on the third set to begin shortly, the signs of growth are clear. All new buildings are expected to be ready for occupancy by the end of 2026. In total, not only apartments, but also open spaces, a daycare center and a local supplier will be built on an area of 14 hectares by the end of 2027. The new buildings are environmentally friendly and planned according to the KfW Efficiency House 55 standard, which underlines the sustainability of the project. Instone reports that 350 apartments in listed existing buildings are also to be renovated.

In addition, 550 parking spaces will be built and over 1,000 trees will be planted to increase the quality of life in the new urban district. This ambitious project is already having a positive impact on the housing market in Leipzig, where the need for social housing remains high. It remains exciting to see what the next steps in the implementation of Parkstadt Leipzig will look like.
