Another forest fire was reported in northern Saxony on Monday afternoon, and it appears that the situation in the forests is becoming increasingly critical. Fortunately, in a forest north of Wiedemar, very close to the border with Saxony-Anhalt, there was initially only a small area of ​​fire. The fire department arrived quickly on the scene and was able to quickly extinguish the fire before it could spread further. But current events are shining a spotlight on the increasing risk of forest fires in the region. How Radio Leipzig reported, the forestry authority of North Saxony reacted immediately and issued a new official warning.

From Wednesday there will be strict bans on entering forests in large parts of the North Saxony district, as the highest forest fire danger level of 5 is forecast for the Dübener Heide, the Dahlener Heide and Wermsdorf. At this level, entering the forests is expressly prohibited. Anyone who does not adhere to this ban must expect fines of up to 2,500 euros. This should under no circumstances be taken lightly.

Take the risk of forest fires seriously

The threat of wildfires is not just a local issue, it affects us all. The year-round ban on using open fires in the forest applies regardless of the forest fire danger level and is anchored in the Forest Act for the Free State of Saxony. This regulation forces all forest visitors to adhere to the regulations. Smoking, grilling, lighting campfires and using sky lanterns are strictly prohibited. In addition, controls are also carried out by the municipalities under the appropriate conditions. In the event of a fire, there is only one correct course of action: immediately inform the fire department on number 112.
