The risk of forest fires is increasing: entry bans and high fines are imminent!

Another forest fire was reported in northern Saxony on Monday afternoon, and it appears that the situation in the forests is becoming increasingly critical. Fortunately, in a forest north of Wiedemar, very close to the border with Saxony-Anhalt, there was initially only a small area of fire. The fire department arrived quickly on the scene and was able to quickly extinguish the fire before it could spread further. But current events are shining a spotlight on the increasing risk of forest fires in the region. How Radio Leipzig reported, the forestry authority of North Saxony reacted immediately and issued a new official warning.

From Wednesday there will be strict bans on entering forests in large parts of the North Saxony district, as the highest forest fire danger level of 5 is forecast for the Dübener Heide, the Dahlener Heide and Wermsdorf. At this level, entering the forests is expressly prohibited. Anyone who does not adhere to this ban must expect fines of up to 2,500 euros. This should under no circumstances be taken lightly.

Take the risk of forest fires seriously

The threat of wildfires is not just a local issue, it affects us all. The year-round ban on using open fires in the forest applies regardless of the forest fire danger level and is anchored in the Forest Act for the Free State of Saxony. This regulation forces all forest visitors to adhere to the regulations. Smoking, grilling, lighting campfires and using sky lanterns are strictly prohibited. A violation will, as in Forest portal Saxony reading is punished as an administrative offense.

Anyone who still wants to let a sky lantern rise must be aware of the consequences: there are penalties of up to 1,000 euros for unauthorized launches. That's why it's important to be particularly careful and heed the warnings from the authorities. In order to protect forests and avoid accidents, it is also important not to block access routes to forest areas with vehicles. These routes are essential for rescue workers in an emergency.

Legal background

The legal provisions are clear: Section 15 of the Saxon Forest Law regulates the handling of fire in the forest and prohibits smoking and open fires. This is intended to help preserve the valuable forest areas in their economic and environmental function. In addition, controls are also carried out by the municipalities under the appropriate conditions. In the event of a fire, there is only one correct course of action: immediately inform the fire department on number 112.

Raising awareness about wildfire safety and complying with regulations is a shared responsibility. This is the only way we can preserve the forests of Saxony, which offer many places of refuge for animals and serve as recreational areas, for future generations.
