800 years of golden gate: Fixed weeks attract 3,000 visitors!
A very special event recently took place in the Freiberg Cathedral: the festival weeks to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Golden Gate. From June 8 to June 22, 2025, the cathedral was a truly lively place that attracted around 3,000 guests. The top -class program captivated all generations and offered something from cultural events to spiritual experiences for everyone.
The grand finale of the festival weeks was crowned by a concert by the renowned Dresden Kreuzchores on June 22nd. Domkantor Albrecht Koch was enthusiastic about the lively encouragement and the joy of the visitors to the unique portal, which is considered one of the most outstanding works of art in European late novelism. The golden gate, a former main gate of the Romanesque basilica, was built in 1225 and has been telling biblical stories since then, so that illiterate people could also grasp the messages.
Festive supporting program and activities
The festival weeks were opened with a "long night of the golden gate", which offered not only half -hour tours, but also musical accompaniment. This event not only put the gate in the right light, but also offered numerous relaxation options, for example with a glass of wine in a deck chair, or meditative devotions about the fantastic figures of the portal.
Numerous childcare facilities provided entertainment for younger visitors. With a LEGO® project, the small builders were able to recreate the golden gate and thus become active part of the anniversary. A family service formed the ceremonial conclusion of this creative project. Short devotions during the festival weeks also encouraged visitors to deal with the biblical figures shown in it.
cultural highlights and scientific depth
Another highlight was the scientific symposium in cooperation with renowned universities and the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments. The historical status and the artistic championship of the Golden Pforte were illuminated in exciting lectures. The people were not only invited to rediscover the gate, but also to appreciate the place of his creation.
The overall program of the festival weeks was prepared in a gold-glowing design and was ready in all churches and in the cathedral for free take away. In addition to the historical and scientific aspects, cultural events, such as organ concerts on the Silbermann organs and a performance of Monteverdi's "Marienvesper" with the Ensemble Amarcord, were also highly valued.
The Golden Pforte, known in 1524 due to its colors as "Gulden Thure", remains an impressive testimony of the artistic and Christian character, which also inspires people in the presence. A banner of the installation will be visible until mid -October in order to continue to convey the beauty and meaning of this valuable work of art.
For everyone who missed this one -time celebration, the Golden Pforte will definitely be a reason to visit the Freiberg Cathedral again soon. Interested parties can find more information about the events on the websites of the Saxony, Freiburger DOM and Saxony Tourismus.
