Deacon ordination in Dresden: Karim-Habib Gehrmann in office from June 28th!

On June 28, 2025, a very special occasion will be celebrated in the Dresden Cathedral: the ordination of Karim-Habib Gehrmann as a deacon. The service begins at 10:30 a.m. A quarter of an hour beforehand there will be a spiritual warm-up led by Chaplain Michael H. Kreher. The ordination will be carried out by Bishop Heinrich Timmerevers and marks an important step in the career of the deacon, who was born in Berlin in 1997.

Karim-Habib Gehrmann is closely connected to the parish of the Assumption of Mary in Schirgiswalde and has already been involved in the youth group in Wilthen and as leader of the altar boy group in Oppach. His active role extends to the deanery and diocese level, where he acts as a spokesman for the diocese youth helper group. After completing his training as an educator, he completed a preparatory course in Bamberg and is currently studying Catholic theology at the St. Lambert study center in Lantershofen. He is currently in the pastoral course at the seminary in Erfurt, where he is gaining practical experience in the parish of St. Mother Teresa in Chemnitz, where he will later work as a deacon.

Tasks and celebrations

The ordination as a deacon is not only a formal act, but also the beginning of the diverse tasks that Karim-Habib will take on as a deacon. This includes the preaching service, the organization of baptisms, the accompaniment of mourners and charitable pastoral care. In order to properly celebrate the consecration, a solemn vespers will take place the evening before, June 27th at 7:30 p.m. in the Kreuzkapelle of the Dresden Cathedral. Bishop Timmerevers and diocesan youth pastor Michael H. Kreher will also be present here. These multi-day celebrations symbolize prayers for spiritual callings and support for Karim-Habib Gehrmann's future ministry.

Insights into training

Karim-Habib Gehrmann's path to ordination as a deacon is characterized by solid training and special experiences. The seminarians are currently attending various events as part of the pastoral course in order to get to know each other and understand the concept of the course. This introduction is led by prominent representatives such as Ansgar Pohlmann and Johannes Zehe, who pass on their experiences.

Another highlight of the training is the visit to the Intercultural Advice and Meeting Center in Magdeburg, where the seminarians talk to employees and get to know the church work in the city district. These intensive days, which are characterized by a positive presentation of cultural diversity and a strong team spirit, end with a final review and feedback session under Regens Pohlmann.

The anticipation of the next meetings in Hamburg and Paderborn shows that the training of future pastors is well underway and will give all participants deep insights into their future craft.

Overall, Karim-Habib Gehrmann's ordination as a deacon is a promising step on his path to becoming a priest and a significant event for the community and for everyone who accompanied him on his career. The coming days of celebrations and communal prayer will certainly be a memory for a lifetime.
