Dieter Machine Birr at the age of 81: New tour with strings begins!

Freiberg, Sachsen, Deutschland - Dieter «Machine» Birr, the charismatic ex-singer of the Puhdys, reports back on stage at the age of 81. From September 2023, he starts an exciting new musical project, which is a premiere even for the experienced musician. He goes on tour with a string quintet, which consists of talented musicians from the Berlin State Opera, the German Opera and the Berlin Philharmonic. This combination promises an extraordinary experience, because Birr and the musicians were introduced to each other during a meal together-and you can say that some of them are big Puhdy's fans. As reports diesachsen.de, the tour will begin on September 26th in Tivoli in Freiberg, a place that is of particular importance for the Puhdys, as they have given their first concert in November 1969.

On stage, Birr is accompanied by two violins, cello, viola, double bass and the keyboardist Marcus Gorstein. This musical accompaniment could not be more fitting, because Birr has recovered 24 songs for the quintet. Among them are famous hits of the Puhdys such as “Das Buch” and “Lifetime”, but also pieces from his solo albums. He particularly emphasizes that these songs are "very emotional" pieces and open a new dimension of Puhdy's music, which will certainly captivate many. As notes bz-berlin.de, Birr plans the installation of a classic piece-originally he wanted to play Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons", but has now developed an alternative idea.

an unmistakable path

In the course of his impressive career, Dieter Birr, who was born in Köslin in 1944, launched a large number of musical projects. With the Puhdys - the most successful rock band of the GDR - he composed over 250 songs and gained the nickname "machine", which still accompanies him today. The band dissolved in January 2016, but Birr stayed active and released several solo albums. His last two works, "Big hearts" (2023) and "My Way" (2024), reached no less 4th place in the album charts, as well as Wikipedia.

"Anyone who rests that rusts" is not only a motto from Birr, but also reflects his tireless energy. In addition to the upcoming tour with the Streicher Quintet, he is also active in projects such as “Songs for Generations”, where he performs with Silly guitarist Uwe Hassbeck. In addition, he can be seen regularly in the talk show "What has happened so far", where he tells stories from his moving life and sings songs.

With this tour, Birr shows that the music knows no age and is never too late to dare something new. His return is a real highlight in cultural life, and the anticipation for the concerts grows not only with his loyal fans, but also with music lovers who appreciate the fusion of rock and classical music.
