Experience Bach's masterpieces: organ music in Wechselburg!

On Sunday, June 29, 2025, the St. Otto Church in Wechselburg will be the venue for the 2nd Wechselburg Organ Music. From 4 p.m., the renowned organist Martin Strohhäcker will transform the church into a place of musical devotion. This special concert represents the spiritual conclusion of the Schramm Organ Days and celebrates the reconsecration of Johann Jakob Schramm's historic organ from 1724.

As the Dresden-Meißen diocese reports, the concert offers a fascinating selection of works by well-known composers: Johann Sebastian Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Heinrich Knecht and Johann Rinck, all with reference to Schramm, the organ builder who lived in the 18th century. Father Maurus Kraß will lead the evening as liturgist and provide inspiration for Psalm 138, which gives the concert an additional deeper dimension.

Entrance and donations

The event is free, but donations are welcome to further support the vibrant culture and restoration work at St. Otto's Church. This evening promises not only musical delights, but also an exchange about faith and community.

Insights into the Wechselburg organ music

The Wechselburg Organ Music begins in 2023 and is a joint project of the Protestant parish and the Wechselburg Monastery. In 2025, the original concept, which has already proven itself, will be continued. A highlight is the change between the Catholic and Protestant houses of worship, which offers visitors not only cultural but also architectural impressions. After extensive restoration work, the organ and the church are now available to the community and visitors again.

The program of the Wechselburg Organ Music does not only consist of impressive organ music, but also includes biblical words, spiritual impulses, prayers and songs that are presented in liturgical form. The aim of this series is to provide spiritual entertainment while providing livelihood for the participants. The organizers refer to the life theme of Johann Sebastian Bach: “To honor the highest God alone and to man for the recreation of the mind,” which reflects the spirit of the evening.

Martin Strohhäcker made a name for himself as a professor of organ playing at the University of Church Music in Dresden. He studied in Stuttgart, Paris under Marie-Claire Alain and Barcelona and has won multiple prizes, including from the Nuremberg Organ Week and the Conservatoire de Paris. Since 2000 he has been the organist at the Dreikönigskirche in Dresden-Neustadt and oversees numerous master classes and concerts at home and abroad. As wechselburgerorgelmusiken.com emphasizes, such artists keep the tradition of organ music alive.

Be there when St. Otto's Church becomes an experience for the senses on June 29th! Enjoy the sounds of the organ and the spiritual atmosphere in this historic church.
