Experience the masterpieces of Bach: organ music in Wechselburg!
On Sunday, June 29, 2025, the Sankt Otto Church in Wechselburg becomes the scene of the 2nd Wechselburg organ music. From 4 p.m., the renowned organist Martin Strohhäcker transforms the church into a place of musical prayer. This special concert represents the spiritual end of the Schramm Orgel days and celebrates the consecration of the historical organ of Johann Jakob Schramm from 1724.
As reports by the diocese of Dresden-Meißen, the concert offers a fascinating selection of works by well-known composers: Johann Sebastian Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Heinrich Knecht and Johann Rinck, all in relation to Schramm, the organ builder, who lived in the 18th century. Father Maurus Kraß will lead through the evening as a liturg and give impulses to Psalm 138, which also gives the concert a deeper dimension.
Entry and donations
The event is free of charge, but donations are welcome to further support the lively culture and restoration work at the Sankt Otto Church. This evening not only promises musical delights, but also an exchange about faith and community.
insights into the change of organ music
The Wechselburg organ music begins in 2023 and are a joint project of the Evangelical Parish and the Wechselburg monastery. In 2025, the original concept that has already proven itself will continue. A highlight is the change between the Catholic and Evangelical worshipers, which offers visitors not only cultural but also architectural impressions. The organ and the church are now available for the community and visitors after extensive restoration work.
The program of the Wechselburg organ music not only consists of impressive organ music, but also includes biblical words, spiritual impulses, prayers and songs that are presented in liturgical form. The aim of this series is to offer spiritual entertainment and at the same time make a living for the participants. The organizers refer to the life topic of Johann Sebastian Bach: "Honor to the highest god and to the recreation of the mind", which reflects the spirit of the evening.
Martin Strohhäcker has made a name for himself as a professor of organ playing at the University of Church Music in Dresden. He studied in Stuttgart, Paris under Marie-Claire Alain and Barcelona and is a multiple award winner, including the Nuremberg organ week and the Conservatoire de Paris. He has been organist at the Dreikönigskirche in Dresden-Neustadt since 2000 and looks after numerous master classes and concerts at home and abroad. As changeburgerorgelmusiken.com, the tradition of organ music is kept alive by such artists.
