French conquer Riesa: Triathlon weekend causes a sensation!
A touch of France is currently blowing through Riesa in Saxony. Sébastien Rehibi and Delphine Petitmangin from Villerupt are part of a group of twelve that arrived in Riesa on Thursday. Your visit was organized by the town twinning association “Riesa and the World” and is dedicated to sport, with the highlight on Saturday being the 23rd Castle Triathlon in Moritzburg. The athletes compete in the half-distance race - that means around two kilometers of swimming, 90 kilometers of cycling and more than 20 kilometers of running. They have set themselves this sporting challenge with a clear goal: They want to reach the finish after about five and a half hours, even if they don't have any high ambitions.
On Friday morning, a tour of the Riesa monastery was on the agenda before we went on a tour of the route in Moritzburg on Friday afternoon. After an overnight stay in Riesa, the athletes travel back to the competition location on Saturday morning to then take part in the competition. It will be exciting to see how the participants of the “Triathlon Grand Villerupt 54” club perform among the almost 1,800 starters who are expected for the weekend.
23rd Castle Triathlon in Moritzburg
The 23rd Castle Triathlon will take place on June 14th and 15th, 2025 and promises a lot for the entire family. On Saturday the long distance, half distance and relay competitions are on the program, while on Sunday the Olympic distance and the everyman distance will take place. A special highlight this year is that the swimming part in the picturesque castle pond can take place again after it had to be canceled last year due to fish deaths. The water test has already confirmed bathing quality, which only increases the anticipation for the event.
The backdrop is clearly an eye-catcher: the baroque hunting lodge in Moritzburg offers a distinctive atmosphere that makes the triathlon a special experience. The chief organizer, Jens Kafka, is convinced of the good organization and the family atmosphere, which make the competition a highlight in the event calendar. The cycling and swimming routes remain unchanged, while the running route has been slightly adjusted due to a simultaneous event at the castle.
With this mix of sporting ambition, beautiful surroundings and community spirit, the Castle Triathlon is sure to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Sébastien and Delphine are very excited and we can't wait to see how the events will go in the coming days. On Sunday the group says goodbye to Riesa and begins the journey back to northern France.
The triathlon is a wonderful opportunity for the entire region to get active and celebrate the international connection. As the Saxon website Sächsische.de reports, the event is all about friendship and sporting cooperation, while also MeiDresden.de aptly describes the mood on site. Preparations are in full swing, the sporting challenges await and hopes are high. Until the starting signal on Saturday!
