Large construction site on the A4: lane reduction starting next week!
From July 21, 2025, there will be significant changes on the A4 between the Chemnitz motorway junction and the Rabensteiner Wald rest area in the direction of Erfurt. A comprehensive renovation of the route begins, which is expected to last until 2027. In this context, two lanes will be reduced until July 25, 2025, 5:00 a.m. Only one lane remains to bypass the construction site, which is why road users are asked to drive particularly carefully. Diesachsen.de reports that the Czech D8 motorway will also be affected by additional restrictions during this time.
Particularly noteworthy is the closure of the Varvažov rest area, which will be closed from July 19 to 31, 2025. During this time, users have to go to other rest areas as no vignettes are available on site. However, digital vignettes can be purchased online via the official platform.
Traffic disruptions in Chemnitz
The construction work is not only being felt on the A4, various restrictions are also planned around Chemnitz from next week. According to Blick.de this means that traffic could be significantly affected at times. The Chemnitz-Mitte exit in particular will be closed on June 3rd from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to work on protective equipment. A diversion within the junction is recommended.
On June 4th, the Chemnitz-Ost exit will also be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and you are advised to take a U-turn to the Hainichen junction. In addition, between June 4th and 5th and from June 16th to 20th, the second fast lane between Frankenberg and Chemnitz-Mitte will be closed during the day, so that there may be possible backlogs. And the load lane between Chemnitz-Glösa and the “Rabensteiner Wald” rest area will also be closed during the day from June 2nd to 6th. Road users should therefore allow more time here.
Use current traffic information
In order to minimize the inconvenience as much as possible, it is recommended to use offers such as ADAC Maps. There, drivers can find real-time traffic flow information and find out about short-term disruptions and current construction sites. This information is particularly helpful in choosing the best route and avoiding possible hazards such as aquaplaning or slippery roads.
